Many may know the presidents of the United states that are considered the Great American Presidents. Many of these presidents are recognized for their outstanding jobs in their positions. However, Franklin Delano Roosevelt the United States, 32nd President is and should be considered a Great American president. His accomplishments have made a great impact and outweigh the problems he had while appointed. Roosevelt was appointed for 8 years and died during the 8th year as president. During his term as president he was able to bring the country together, at the same time as dealing with polio and being paralyzed from the waist down. This caused many situations and meetings to be taken care of at the white house itself.  His  “U.S. role in world politics was ultimately successful in convincing the American people that freedom and democracy at home were inevitably linked to their fate abroad” (Dallek, 1979). This shows his ability to integrate his worldly thoughts into keeping the american culture, people together for the better. With his worldly behaviors, he has been appointed to the ranks of the great American president.

When first nominated to the position as US president, Roosevelt was very excied. He was so into his future job as president he had decided to “wish to fly to chicago to accept his nomination” (Dallek, 1979). This was the first great step towards good things in the United states. His constant involvement in his position put an outstanding taste in many americans mouths. With this Roosevelt adds quick success to his requirements as president. According to a book on FDR “he would not campaign for his nomination” (smith, 2008 )  by not competing for votes this adds a taste in the people's mouths that show Roosevelt was there for the right reasons. He was campaigning for the better of the country rather than himself. Many may know that the end of Roosevelt's campaign led to the song “happy days” (smith, 2008 ) becoming the new national democratic party song after his Campaign. He truly had a great campaign strategy and he knew how to swiftly sway the votes of others without actually trying to completely change peoples minds.

After getting into the president's position a very unfortunate disease came into the American public's view. It was later learned that Roosevelt had polio. However, Before this were to happen many only knew that FDR was ill and had to recover. It was made known by a Doctor from New York “ he had lost the use of both legs below the knee however he will not be crippled” (smith, 2008). This can cause an outbreak in a country that was so vulnerable after progressively getting over the Great Depression. Although, this did not stop Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His wife Elenore revealed to the public that although he was going through a tough disease, Overall, this disease “gave him patience and increased his understanding on what suffering meant” (Brinkley, 2009). Overall these are great traits to take in or have gained through presidency. These traits made him a more understanding president because it forced him to see a different side of life other than normalcy. With the disease of polio being present in the United States presidency the American culture was sent into a shock. Having a president with an illness like this showed many people that anyone is capable of doing what they set their mind to.

Another accomplishment that changed America for the better, was the putting together of the New deal. This series of projects were put to use during the great depression. The United States was in a very bad time when Roosevelt took office. He knew his position and immediately began to strategize ways to make for a better economy and suffering out of people's lives. The new deal was a way for Americans To have an emergency relief measure. The “concept of this was to help with an economic recovery plan” (Hiltzik, 2011). During this time the economic plan was a very smart and well thought out idea by Roosevelt. This was specifically aimed to help with workers and farmers and also create jobs for the unemployed. A form of this act is still taken very seriously in the age of 2022, this additionally shows the importance of the relief measures that were put in place by Roosevelt in the 1900s.

Additionally, many issues could have arised when having Franklin Denor Roosevelt as president. Many could argue that having a president with a disease that causes them to be unable to do certain jobs can make us as a country look weak. During the time of his presidency there was major controversy due to many articles and more being published. “The Liberty article, in particular, addressed the elephant in the room of whether a "cripple" was fit to be president” (ott, 2020). These articles while in place of president causes for many people to get worried on whether he is able to do his position correctly. However he was very diligent twoards his position and never let his own problems affect the country in any way.

Overall, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt proved his position as one of the many Great American Presidents. He has had multiple huge accomplishments in his position that has saved the United States specifically in the area of economics. He is the president who provided help for farmers and even the unemployed. He was the president during the time of the attack on pearl harbor and had immediately acted on this action. It is known that he had such a love for his country that he was the “first president to leave the united states during war time” (ott, 2020). This is simply outstanding from other presidents because Roosevlet was willing to risk his life to give his people the truth of what is happening with the new war against Japan. He later became very weak and had to step away from Washington DC. Later in the year of 1945 Roosevelt passed away and is now one of the many successful presidents of the United States. “Nothing to fear but fear itself” refers to a saying that Roosevelt states, this saying is something that shows not only do his actions but his own life all contribute to his great presidency.
