“Created by the poor stolen by the rich.”  This statement was created by furious Manchester United fans to protest the club’s involvement in the European Super League (ESL).  Soccer fans everywhere adopted this statement and became the main quote to protest the ESL.  But the ESL could help smaller football clubs make more money and get more attention to new or older football fans.  Fans will not have any entertaining matches to look forward to, some players will not be able to play on their national teams, the owners just want more money instead of their fans’ interest.  The ESL is corrupted and will have the sport of soccer meet its end.

Fans will not be able to see any fun, enjoyable matches between good teams.  Soccer or football is supposed to be entertaining to the viewers but with no good matches, viewers do not have any to look forward to.  A broadcaster from Sky Sports said, “Providing fans with the best live action from the best football competitions in the world.”  With the ESL breaking apart, companies like Sky Sports can give football fans the best action.  Companies that broadcast football now can broadcast the best football games.  According to the NY Times, “The new super league model would change that, by stripping the Champions League (CL) of its most attractive and most successful teams and effectively walling off the richest clubs.”  ESL deprived the most famous and interesting team of the highest honor.  By taking away the CL’s best teams makes the league less entertaining.  According to the NY Times, “The leaders of the breakaway group have been trying to get other top teams, like Germany’s Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and the French champion Paris St.-Germain, to commit. But to date those clubs — and others — have declined to walk away from the domestic structures and continental competitions that have underpinned European soccer for generations.”  The ESL was trying to get Germany’s clubs but was denied.  Fans will not be able to see fun matches but also see their favorite players not play on their national teams.

Players who play on an ESL team will not be able to play on their national teams.  This is a way that FIFA made, so they go against the ESL.  According to the NY Times, “FIFA on Sunday expressed its disapproval of the concept of a closed league but refrained from the type of threats being lobbed by top officials in Europe.  FIFA, along with the CL and UEFA, hates that the ESL is a thing.  The UEFA’s president, Aleksander Ceferin, insisted on FIFA the idea that ESL players can not play on their national teams.  According to Irish Times, “Uefa’s president, Aleksander Ceferin, has insisted that players who join the new European Super League will be banned from World Cups and European Championships if the breakaway materializes.”  UEFA most likely gave the idea to FIFA not allowing ESL players to play on their national teams.  Not only can players not play for their national teams, but they also can not play for the Euro 2020.  According to Irish Times, “The players who will play in teams that might play in the closed league will be banned from playing in the World Cup and Euros, so they will not be able to represent their national teams at any matches.”  UEFA and FIFA are trying to stop the ESL as fast as possible.  The ESL players can not play on their national teams, and the owners just want more money.

The owners of the ESL absolutely want more money instead of their fans’ interest.  Some other soccer leagues, like UEFA, feel that the creation of the ESL is just for money.  According to CNN, “Aleksander Ceferin, president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), told reporters on Monday that the breakaway clubs are "fueled purely by greed."  This quote shows how other leagues feel about the creation and why the ESL was created.  As the ESL is for developing money, other leagues like UEFA and CL, are developing football and the culture.  According to Aleksander Ceferin, “Super League is only about money, the money of the dozen, I don't want to call them dirty dozen — but UEFA is about developing football, and about financing what should be financed, that our football, our culture, survives — and some people don't understand it.”  Aleksander Ceferin is saying how the ESL is just for money unlike other leagues and not for the enjoyment and development of the culture of football.  Some biographies of the clubs even build up the notion that money was the primary focus.  According to CNN, “The biographies of the club owners reinforce the notion that money was the driving force behind the decision to start the Super League.”  So the owners, according to this quote, are just in it for the money.  The driving force being money for the creation of ESL, alone, shows that the ESL is corrupt.

The ESL is corrupted and scandalous and will the sport of football meet its end.  Fans will not have any enjoying matches to look forward to.  Players, who play on ESL teams, will not be able to play on their national teams.  The owners of the ESL clubs want more money than more fan interest.  Overall the European super league is horrible and fans will not ever want to stop it.
