After all that has happened in noughts and crosses, could fighting from the inside really be the correct or be the most effective way to fight for justice, or is physically doing something going to make a bigger impact? What could be the most effective way to make a change? The book named Noughts and Crosses is about what it would be like if the roles of white and black people were reversed. In this novel, black people were the well-educated and rich ones while the white people were poorly educated and didn’t have a lot of resources to work with where they lived. The main characters of this story are Sephy and Callum. Sephy is a cross, which means she is black and Callum is a nought so he is white. They’ve been childhood friends and both of their families are friends, even though Callum's mom Meggie McGregor was just a nanny for Sephy.

Callum’s dad is named Ryan McGregor his job is unknown, but he is part of the Liberation Militia. Callum’s named brother Jude McGregor is also part of this group with his dad and Callum has a sister named Lynette McGregor who thinks she is a cross because of her traumatic past. Jasmine Hadley is Sephy’s mom, she just passes her day by drinking wine and reading magazines. Kamal Hadley, the husband of Jasmine Hadley is a highly positioned person in the government. Sephy has a sister named Minerva Hadley, Sephy and Minerva went to a school called Heathcroft High school until Sephy convinced her mom to let her go to a boarding school called Chivers Boarding School. Now, to help make sense of all of this, an incident occurred between Kamal and Jasmine in which Jasmine got slapped because of Meggie’s response to his question so that the McGregors are allowed near the Hadleys. Then, Callum goes to the school Sephy goes to and on the very first day of school the cross students wouldn’t let the noughts of the school in. Then, they do eventually settle down and let them in but then after a heated argument between Jude and Lynette while Callum was at school, Lynette fell back into reality and then decided to kill herself by walking in front of a bus. At the same time, Sephy’s mom tried to take an overdose of sleeping pills and kill herself too. Then, Ryan and Jude joined the L.M, and there was a bombing in a big shopping center called the Dundale mall. After that, the police set out an investigation for it and found the fingerprints of Jude. Then, they told Jude’s dad that they’ll find Jude and hang him which ends up making Callum’s dad confess and he took the entire blame. He goes for trial which leads to him getting life in prison but he ended up committing suicide while trying to escape prison. A few months later, Jude tries to recruit Callum for the L.M which Callum joins. The next task the L.M would be doing was kidnapping Sephy. After that, they ask Kamal Hadley to meet their demands if he wants Sephy to live. Eventually, Callum gets caught and then gets hanged. While Peaceful protests could slowly make a difference, violent ways or having power is the best way. The Pangagean Economic Community had power over Kamal, The bombing is something horrible, horrible enough to make Kamal listen. The kidnapping of Sephy. This almost worked very well.

Near the start of the book, we were told about how the Pangagean Economic Community got the government to let noughts attend their schools and have them recruit noughts for the police force “They said we in this country had to open our schools to noughts, so we did. They said we had to open our doors to recruiting noughts into our police and armed forces,” This shows how they must have something that they can use against Kamal that could be a higher position or more power over him and that made him listen to them and meet their demands.

This brings us to this next point. The Dundale mall bombing was done by the L.M because they were trying to show they’ll get them to give equality to all noughts and that they were serious about this and will go to all lengths to gain equality if they wanted to stop that madness from happening they’ll have to give in to their demands. “At least now the Crosses will know we mean business.” “Noughts and Crosses should be equal” “I support anyone who tries to bring that about.” this was said by Callum which means the L.M is fighting for equality not to hurt the crosses. This finishes off the first two ideas.

I’ll now talk about my last point. Now for this, it’ll be about the kidnapping of Sephy. They did this to get a ransom for plans so that they can force equality between noughts and crosses because obviously, the peaceful protests aren’t doing much since the hateful feelings towards noughts is just too great, they also did that so the L.M can have their members back out of prison so they just wanted them to meet their demands. “the perfect evening to pick up our ransom money and let Kamal Hadley know we had further demands before he could see his daughter. At least, that’s how Jude had described it. The money would fund future L.M. activities but Sephy wouldn’t see her dad again until five L.M. members had been released from prison.'' This proves that having something or an advantage over them makes them give equal rights to all noughts across the UK.

In conclusion, these points prove how the author is showing how physical actions and having more power over someone is far more effective than peaceful actions. The Pangagean Economic Community only got their way with the power they had over them. The bombing and kidnapping were more to show what they can do and will do if they don’t give them equal rights to get what they want. Now after reading this
