Issue and Position:

For many years now, Norway has been using green or renewable energy to fight the climate crisis and to advocate for the well being of the earth, in ways such as using hydropower. Though Norway in the past has profited immensely off of oil and natural gas, to make up for this we will be using the profits from the oil and natural gas to fund, pay and support the use of green energy. Our mission is to fully run on green energy in the future, and to promote the use of green energy to the rest of the world. Currently, 98% of  Norway’s electricity comes from renewable energy sources, and we will be achieving net 0 soon. We also hope to promote the use of electric cars.

Detailed Background Information:

A common issue worldwide has been the negative impacts of using non renewable energy such as its worsening affect on climate change. It is so important and crucial to work toward a fully renewable future because all of the pollution accumulated from oil, natural gas and non green energy sources builds up over time. Climate change can also lead to things like droughts, which has the ability to ruin food production, and the health and well being of our people. Climate change can also lead to flooding, and this can affect the health of communities since flooding can lead to a spread of a disease, which after COVID19 we definitely do not want. Some of the actions we have already taken to promote a green future are for example, using solar energy, and having the majority of our vehicles electric. These actions have been very successful. For electric vehicles, we set a goal in the late nineties to get 50,000 electric vehicles on on our roads by 2017, something we were able to do about 2 years earlier than expected. But a problem that comes with using green energy is the cost of installation. Green energy is very expensive, and we spend up to 1.2 billion dollars on renewable energy projects.

Proposed solutions regarding the Issue:

A few proposed solutions regarding the issue of promoting green energy is using the money collected from the profits off of oil and natural gas from different countries to fund green energy and the spread of it, and to also cover the cost of  things like electric cars and solar panels. Another proposed solution is using more wind and solar energy. For example, using the funds from oil and natural gas to provide and establish more wind farms and solar panels for homes. In general using wind and solar energy is so good for the planet because using wind to generate energy has less environmental consequences than many other energy sources. With few exceptions, wind turbines do not emit pollutants into the air or water, and they do not require water for cooling. Solar energy is also pollution free, and its reliable even on cloudy days, because solar energy can still provide power.
