Film Analysis Essay: Encanto

 A film that made the strongest impression on me is recently was Encanto, by Disney. The film is an animation that was released in November 2021 and it combines a little comedy, mystery, drama and is filled to the brim with remarkable musical numbers in the style of Hamilton.

The film tells the peculiar story of Mirabel, the second-youngest child of the Madrigals, the family that uses a magical gift to rule over a small village in Colombia where the story is set. Mirabel is the only one born without any power in her family, and of that, she is always left behind by them. The story centres on Mirabel investigating the slow disappearance of the magic in her family and the treatment of the generational trauma that her family has been living in the last decades.

I would highly recommend Encanto to everyone who wants to see a good Latino representation and a lot of both feel-good and emotional songs. I would say the main message is that even though we love someone, some things can get in the way of this love and it makes us realise that we should look forward to solving these issues instead of turning a blind eye to them.
