Since the beginning of time, every society has had to address enduring issues with different results. One enduring issue is inequality.  This issue was apparent during the late 1800’s- the early 1900’s when people were not hired because of their culture. Like with all enduring issues, this one has affected and been affected by people and has continued to be a recurring issue.

Inequality was a big issue during the late 1800 and early 1900s and still is! Especially during when immigrants were treated unfairly. For example, the living conditions for an immigrant were not that good.(Doc 2) This place where the immigrants stayed was very small and cramped. They lived in tenements and in these places diseases spread quickly. Another example is that the Irish were treated unfairly because shops needed help but the sign had said “Help wanted, No Irish!”(Doc 3) The Irish were treated badly and very unfairly. The Irish were being treated like dirt while the U.S. citizens were treated very well. Men got paid more than the women and the conditions were terrible. Even though there was a lot of inequality in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s there still continues to be inequality today.

Inequality continues to be an issue today and has changed over time. The first example is when Donald Trump did the immigration ban of 2017 which had made it so that people from Muslim countries could not come to America.(Doc 5) The immigrants were stopped at the borders and just stayed there. Some parents even abandoned their kids in random spots. There were also guards on the wall so if an immigrant would do something bad the guards were there. Even if immigrants go to America there are many things that block them from entering.

In conclusion I believe that inequality was a very big issue back then and it is still a big issue today. People have done so much to try and prevent immigrants from coming into America. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s immigrants had to get processed through Ellis Island to get into America. In 2017 Donald Trump did the immagratoin ban. So this is how inequality has continued over time.
