After four years of innumerable casualties and the greatest war destruction that the world had seen so far, to much relief WWI came to an end on November 11, 1918. The U.S. addition to the Allied powers were enough to finally overcome the Centrals’ efforts. In defeat, Germany signed the armistice agreement which stated that the nation would surrender. With the end of a world war, major reconstruction needed to take place. In efforts to achieve this a conference took place in Paris, in this meeting four nations would decide what needed to occur for the restoration of the global financial and social welfare. As a result of this meeting the Treaty of Versailles was formed which would assign war responsibility to Germany and other Central powers.

Although the U.S. was represented when the armistice was formed there has been much debate over whether the U.S. Senate should have ratified the treaty. Those in favor of signing the treaty and joining the League of Nations, believe that America could only benefit from it. They claim that it is America’s right to join seeing that our soldiers fought valiantly in the war just as well as the other nations. President Wilson was a firm believer that by joining the league, America would aid in causing global peace. Wilson believed the treaty and the league would prevent another global war and would distribute national power evenly throughout Europe. At glance, those in favor of ratification had reasonable cause to support this idea, however, I believe that the most beneficial action for our nation to take is to reject the Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations.

The idea of the Treaty of Versailles and the formation of the League of Nations at first glance looks as though it could offer a solution to world peace, but in actuality there are many cracks and unreasonable courses of actions for all the nations to comply with.
