In this essay, much knowledge and skills are needed to build the city of Roman. Twenty first century construction workers have many tools and equipment rather than being in 25 BC and not using more equipped tools that doesn’t require a worker to work very hard. Like today’s time, Roman in the year 728 did have some of the same equipment and tools that we have today. Mortar, stone, clay, and wood are described being used in Verbonia, are also commonly used in today’s time. Workers worked in sheds and had a forge for repairing and making tools needed. In today’s time most brick, stone, wood are put and transported by trucks, however there was no electricity, so there were no cars so, it took much strength to gather and lift these needed tools.

Engineers worked nonstop through spring and summer to finish this complex task. The Main Street was widened and strengthened to increase the size to seven hundred and twenty six yards long so, the maximum could be 50,000. In the city of Roman each house and workshop was built in one. Solideres, traders, and farmer were given designated plans to give to workers. Workers were then tasked to carve the names of the owners on marble to prepare and began to work on the job. The groma was used to accurately determine that all roles were intersected at right angles. Whether you are a skilled or unskilled worker, you had a important chore to do at all times. Unskilled labored workers polished, cut, or carved inscriptions in the stone. Whereas unskilled workers lifted and separated large blocks from the ground. Leaders of the community led cows and bulls to form a trail or furrow around the site.

In the same way we now have blueprints, engineers in Verbonia made plans of the work and was stood in the forum for skilled workers to see and plan for. Despite having many differences from 25 BC and today’s time Verbonia has precautions that are still used today. Shelter over the sidewalk for the protection and comfort for pedestrians, was mandatory for buildings whom faced one of the main streets. Today, when landscapers, construction workers, or engineers need equipment they usually call or put in a order for it, whereas workers in Verbonia made or had to go get their own equipment. Mortar was made by sand, lime and water. Pozzolana was added to mortar when used underwater to make mortar hard when set. Clay was dug out of ground, to make bricks and tiles in factories. It was then put in a over to harden and dry. Wood was cut down from the Apennine Mountains to be used for roof framework and scaffolding. Stone, the most complex of all was jammed with wooden stakes, and diluted with water to make splits in lines alone the stone. To summarize, all workers in Verbonia regardless of skilled or unskilled had various complex jobs to make the city  Roman what it is today. These particular tasks required great knowledge, strength, and time to complete.
