The tragedy of Macbeth shows several different forms of relationships ranging in different levels of commitment, trust and understanding. The relationship between Macbeth and the witches was informational that ultimately ended in many murders due to power and greed. The relationship between Macbeth and Banquo was friendly however because of his malevolent nature Macbeth ordered the death of Banquo. The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth was manipulative as Lady Macbeth was the one who influenced Macbeth into killing King Duncan and resulted in the worsening mental condition of Macbeth.

At the start of the play when Macbeth and Banquo won the battle and saw the witches, the  relationship between Macbeth and the witches was depicted as they heard the “thane of Cawdor” from the witched which foreshadows that Macbeth he will become the thane of Cawdor. The witches believe that  “fair is foul and foul is fair”. The equivocation suggests that witches are not telling the whole truth and things are not as they seem. They do this in order to try to manipulate Macbeth into his demise and influence him to take the wrong actions. As well as this the oxymoron used in the quote could represent the state of mind of the witches, as they believe whatever is good is bad, which depicts their twisted mindset and why they think tricking Macbeth into his own death is something they should pursue.

During the play the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have a manipulative and unloving relationship. We can see this as Lady MAcbeth tries to manipulate and belittle as calls Macbeth “Then you were a man” and “coward”. It shows that Lady Macbeth is trying to control Macbeth's actions for her own selfish reasons. When Lady Macbeth told MAcbeth is trying to convince him to kill the king she told Macbeth to “look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it”. The simile used in the quote depicts that MAcbeth should be presented as a good person but should have malicious and cruel qualities .Lady Mabeth tries to convince him to commit regicide and to never show his true person and cover the reality with a facade and fool people with his appearance. As well as this the juxtaposition between flower and serpent could represent the duality of MAcbeth’s nature.. Also the noun serpent could represent the story of Adam and Eve and how LAdy Macbeth is now tempting macbeth to murder the king.
