Do you like more violence or less violence when reading a book? The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is about these two boys that live in Afghanistan and by the end of the book there is a lot of violence that happens in Afghanistan and in the book in general. Violence is needed in the book to make it a book that is worthwhile to read. If there was zero violence the audience reading the book would not have as strong of feeling for the characters and the book would not be what the author was intending it to be. Zero violence in a book can leave some parts out and miss some important details, minimal violence in books is some when in between, and enough violence to push some people away from reading a certain book is not a bad thing.

Some people like zero violence in books and some times that is good. Not all the time though, there has to be some violence in books. If a book has zero violence then anyone will read it. ”Later, they said I was still screaming when the ambulance arrived”(Hosseini 343). This does not show what actually happens but people can infer and it does not go into detail. Books with absolutely no violence are less enjoyable to read. ”The Talib, looking absurdly like a baseball pitcher on the mound, hurled the stone at the blindfolded man in the hole”(Hosseini  271). This is definitely too violent for some people. Zero violence is not as strong as minimal violence.

Minimal violence in a book is better than none but it still can leave some things out. A small amount of violence is good because it gets the point across without getting too gory.”she pulled up the blanket. We closed the door. Baba never woke up”(Hosseini 173). baba passed away without it being violent and you are still able to understand what is happening. Minimal violence can leave some thighs out while still being a little violent. ”Fardid gave me a look that said hearing is not the same as seeing”(Hosseini 244). There could have been more in this part of the book. minimal violence is good but harsh violent parts in this book are needed.

The amount of violence in a book varies but books need violence if it is a book that takes place in a violent place or time. The Kite Runner needs to be violent so the reader can see what the characters are really going through. ”Just like I pretended I hadn't seen the dark stain in the seat of his pants. Or those tiny drops that fell from between his legs and stained the snow black”(Hosseini 78). If this part of the book was not as violent as it was it would be hard to understand what happens after this part. violence being presented harsly in a book can help the reader relate and feel feelings that the characters in the book are feeling.“The slingshot made a thwiiiit sound when sorab released the cup.- blood oozed between his fingers”(Hosseini 291). Assef got what he deserved and if it was not so violent I do not think it would have done the justice it needed to. Clearly violence is needed in novels to get certain points across. For example the Taliban are bad but if you want to make it seem more believable you need to tell people what kind of bad things they do. violence in books should not be shunned or frowned upon because in some books violence is needed.

Many people believe that all kinds of violence is appropriate or inappropriate. Violence is needed in the book to make it a good read. If there was zero violence we would not have as strong of feeling for the characters and the book would not be what the author was intending it to be. How do you feel about violence in books? Do you think there Should there be more or less?
