I can still remember the first time I stepped foot into a plane; I couldn't understand how something created from metal, screws and glass could fly so gracefully. My Dad often comments on how I spent the whole journey asking questions. Since then, I have maintained my inquisitive mindset, keeping my interest in planes. I would say that interaction prompted my interest in STEM subjects, in particular maths, engineering and physics. The aforementioned subjects contribute to my driving factor to study mechanical or aeromechanical engineering. Undertaking these courses would be an exceptional opportunity to expand my knowledge and create a pathway for a career in engineering.

Furthermore, I am an excellent candidate as I have completed bronze Duke of Edinburgh. I aimed to achieve silver and advance onto gold. Unfortunately, Covid-19 prevented me from accomplishing this. However, I would like to proceed with the Duke of Edinburgh award at the first opportunity. I have displayed an interest in shaping the pupil experience of my peers by volunteering at the school science club. During this experience, I was a demonstrator for experiments and helped if any issues arose. I currently possess skills such as good planning, time management, co-operation, communication and problem-solving. All the skills were applied when developing a buggy as part of my higher engineering studies. By potentially becoming Science Captain, I hope to develop these skills further by having responsibility. As a Prefect, I have responsibilities and am relied upon frequently by teachers.

Moreover, I have shown leadership skills through the captaincy of my football team for several years. As captain, I had to display specific skills such as ambition, resilience and confidence and this, in turn, made me a good role model for the current and younger players. An example of this was when I led my team to success in a national tournament. I also take an interest in the local community. Pre-Covid; I helped in functions where I choreographed a hip-hop dance for young adults. I also helped raise funds for a local hospice, where I volunteered, collecting money from donors.

I hope to further improve these by participating in team projects at university. Recently I applied for the BAE five-day virtual work experience. Working in a significant and formal environment will allow me to develop my pre-existing skills. I am intending on participating in the Bentley Motors work experience, which takes place in February. I would be working on a project in a group environment; The prospective being learning how the business operates. I desire to apply my problem-solving skills in a non-academic setting to see their application in the workplace. Obtaining this experience would be a great way of seeing engineering in practice.

In conclusion, I am ready for the challenge of university because I see it as the most dependable way to lead me to success in engineering. I know that I am apt because I have displayed the required skills inside and out of school. A few include organisation, decision-making and self-motivation. One of the many reasons I desire university is due to the vast resources there are. Only some of these resources are lecturers, technology and resource facilities, such as the Andersonian library. University also offers better degrees in mechanical and aeromechanical engineering, ergo, helping me get a job in my coveted path.
