The Aboriginals are an Indigenous group that lives in Australia. Before the European Invasion in 1788, they lived in separate tribes around the land, with different beliefs, languages, and traditions. The average aboriginal tribe would have men hunt for large animals and food while the women and child would collect fruits, plants and berries.

Aboriginals used to live in different types of shelter/huts made of different types of materials like wood, rocks, leaves and more. Some people use frames as sticks and cover them with bark and leaves. Most huts/shelter were dome shaped and had a huge hole to enter from and out of.

The children of the aboriginals were educated through their cultures to show how they do their basic everyday things; like hunting animals, gathering fruits/plants, languages and more. The aboriginal children didn’t have a school but probably was taught by their parents/family members or people in the tribe that are the best at the job.

Most Aboriginals would have celebrated different traditions and events before the invasion. Some include the Corroborees, celebrations of the Dreaming, and more. The Corroborees are dances that they used to do to celebrate or do for fun. The Dreaming is a term to tell how the planet and the land was created. One example is the Rainbow Serpent, this is where a giant serpent comes along and creates water, land and animals.

For them to communicate, they would have used a message stick. A message stick is a stick that is used to communicate between different aboriginal tribes. They would usually draw or put stuff on the stick and get someone to travel over to the next tribe to communicate or set a meeting in place.

After a while, the English invaded and took away their lives and living. They were forced to be put in prisons or settlements to either learn the ways of the English or suffer. This was the start of the stolen generation where kids were kidnapped and taken away to learn the ways of the English. Some aboriginals were used for slavery to harvest crops or things.

In the Present Day, Aboriginals are treated better than before. We recognize them as normal people, at least most people. Some people are still racist, and that is a worldwide problem like pollution or war. Aboriginals can also live in their traditional land if they are following the Aboriginal Land Right Act. Aboriginals are now being recognized and treated what they supposed to be. 90% of surveyed Australians want Aboriginals to be officially recognized. However, some aboriginal people don’t want to be recognized and want to have a treaty.

Also, some of the Australian Aboriginals are living in poverty. About 30% of Indigenous (Around 130,000 people) live in poverty around Australia.

To be honest, Australia has become a better place for aboriginals, with them keeping their lands if they want or staying in modern life. There are still some improvements to make like getting rid of racism.
