Determination is a key aspect in the process of becoming personally content because if you don't stick to something that you start it is another setback on the road to personal contentment, and every success and everything you are determined to finish will keep you on the right path. Determination means being resolute about something or someone or a goal or idea. You can see this in the film “Pursuit of Happyness” in the scenes where Chris was going from door to door knocking to see if any doctors would want his bone density scanner. Time and time again, Chris was refused and turned away, but he never stopped trying to sell them throughout the majority of the movie Chris was determined to sell his bone density scanners to help his family get through the tuff times precedent in the movie, all the bills, parking tickets and loans they had to pay off.

Determination is one of the many steps to becoming personally content because determination alone cannot equal personal contentment/happiness. Being resolute about something, someone or a goal or idea is a state of mind. Self-belief, confidence, and perseverance are all in line with this mindset of being determined. Chris knew that if he stopped believing in himself that all the hard work that had been put in would go down the drain. Chris was always confident about the bone density scanner, something that he had put so much work and time into, and that it would all pay off in the end. The mindset was, all I need to do is sell one and everything will get better. His voice never frayed when having conversations with the doctor because he was confident enough that this time he would have a breakthrough, that this would be the time someone would want it. Chris always believed in himself even when it seemed like not many people did. After his wife left he never gave up he continued to believe that he could make a difference for himself and his son. Even when his son lost hope he never stopped working. Chris' wife left, he got evicted twice, his bone density scanner got stolen. Chris experienced such setbacks but never gave up persistence is one of the biggest keys to his success Chris didn't give up when he got turned away by Jay Twistle, but instead got into a taxi with him as he tried to convince him for the job

One needs a purpose to seek the need to be personally content. Christopher was the main reason why Chris kept. Chris was determined to make a difference in his son's life. Chris knew his responsibility as a father and due to how he wanted to be a positive role model in his child's life, he knew he couldn't give up, or once Christopher grew up he would follow his father's example and when things got hard he would give up. The speaker felt a deeper meaning to make it through the tough times than just so that they could have a place to stay, but also so that he would show his son that once things hit rock bottom things can only go up. Chris tried never to let Christopher see when he was stressed, only angry, but, excluding the interactions he had with his wife, he got angry out of love, to show his son what needed to be done to teach him a lesson, all this with the motive to help himself and Christopher to be personally content. Chris's main purpose of seeking personal contentment was Christopher, without Christopher he would have felt no need to keep going, to keep being determined to make a better life. Henceforth why Chris kept Christopher instead of letting Linda take the easy way out with Christopher  and simply just leaving. Put simply, Chris did not keep Christopher just to get back at his wife but to keep a reason to keep seeking personal contentment, and also to keep determined.
