English Writing Course Analysis Essay Example

You'd think that any English writing course in college is going to be difficult, with a lot of assignments and that you won't learn anything, but you're wrong. Even though the professor is going to assign some assignments that make you work through the night, this class helped us develop our writing skills for the better. Coming into this course I expected the class to be boring and just reading and writing heavy but it wasn't like that. Usually, in my past English classes, all we did mostly was just read passages and write essays on them. There weren't that many group discussions and activities which made the class boring.  This class on the other hand was exciting because it wasn't like any other English class I had, to be honest. It was exciting because sometimes we would write by ourselves, discuss as a group, watch a movie about a text we read, and more. If we had trouble or if we were stuck on a part of our essays or text that we didn't get the professor was always happy to help which made me understand how to write and read better. Since the beginning of the course, I think I did improve a bit in reading and writing essays, papers, etc. This class helped us understand the tools we need to use to understand what we are reading and when we have to write. For instance, a tool we learned more about this year was annotation and we use annotation to further our knowledge of the text. This is a good tool to use whenever you are doing a research paper because it helps you understand what you reading by highlighting key ideas. Another way I improved in writing was that before I never knew how to cite sources and use them in our essays and whenever I asked the teachers to explain they never did that well. This class explained it very well. An example of how my essays improved from the beginning of the course to the end of my final project. At the beginning of the course whenever I did an essay I wouldn't do a little research, but now I do. I learned that if you do a little research beforehand the essay would be easy to do and you'd know what you are talking about instead of writing useless information. One way that my writing meets the learning objective of this course is that I research using databases and different websites to learn about what I am going to write about. Another way my writing meets the objectives is my thesis is always supported my reasons and facts that support my argument. I was able to learn how to write well-developed essays, research papers, and paragraphs. One challenge that I still face as a writer is concentration. Whenever I'm writing an essay or something along the lines of an essay I would always lose focus. This is a big problem cause if you in a hurry and need to finish an essay or something and keep losing focus you'll never get it done and information would be all over the place. Therefore, this class and the professor helped us develop from amateur to almost professional writers and helped us to never worry about an essay no matter how long it is.
