Essay on Your Move by Eve Bunting

Have you ever been worried you would end up hanging out with the wrong people? Or be in charge of a gang? Well in the story your move by Eve Bunting one of the characters named Kris is rebellious, Because he does illegal acts, and he is dishonest and manipulative.

The First reason why Kris is rebellious is that he does illegal acts. Kris does many illegal acts throughout the story, he vandalizes signs, steals things, and tries to get kids to join a gang at the ages of 10 and 6 years old. “Kris rattles a can of spray paint just some writing he says”. This shows that Kris wants James to do illegal acts. Kris and his gang also shoplift some evidence of this is, “You know take it from the Minimarket, take it from Bates Drugs” he is trying to make stealing seem ok. Finally, he wants  James and Issac to join his gang at a young age. Some evidence to support this is when Kris comes to their apartment asking them to join and when they denied his invitation.  Kris slammed the door and left, this shows that he is mad. “That's what I get for sticking up for you guys”.  “He’s really mad and slams the door behind him the whole apartment shakes”. This shows that he is mad too because the author used the word mad in the text. So Kris obviously wants James and Issac to join the gang at the age of 10 and 6.

The second reason why Kris is rebellious is that he is dishonest. Throughout the story, Kris says dishonest things. Like Saying shoplifting is a take-it game, also He calls his gang a club and calls tagging writing. Some evidence to back up the idea that Kris says shoplifting is a take-it game is. “Sometimes we play the take  it game” “You mean, steal?” “No, It's a game.'' This shows that he is dishonest because shoplifting is not a game, it is illegal and he is being dishonest to James. Kris also is dishonest when he calls his gang a club. “Kris and bones put this crew together, Except it's not really a crew”. “Kris they are just a bunch of kids who hang out and do cool stuff like a club”.  This shows he is being dishonest because clubs are things where you do fun stuff and learn, not a gang who does illegal acts. And finally, he calls tagging writing. “Kris rattles a can of spray paint.” Just some writing,” he says.” “I take a deep breath,” “You mean tagging?” “Bones shakes his head. Crews tag. We write”. This shows that he is also being dishonest because he is calling tagging writing when writing is with a pen or pencil and paper. And it is not illegal like tagging.

The final reason why Kris is rebellious is that he is manipulative. Throughout the story, there are many times when Kris tries to trick James. For example when Kris tells James that they should play the take it game.  And James goes on to say “you mean steal,” Kris says “No, it's a game”. Trying to get James to think it's ok for him to be shoplifting. Another example of Kris being manipulative is at the end of the story when Kris was trying to get  James and Issac to join the gang. He told them “The K-Bones took a vote your in.” he also brought James and Issac a Lakers hat which may seem not much but why would he bring them it. Well to bribe them to come and join his gang because it says in the story “we’ve all got these now,” he says “Club caps'' so he is basically saying you are a part of the gang if you have a hat so he is trying to trick James into taking the cap because then he is in the gang. But James and Issac both deny the Cap. The last reason is that when Kris says “It's writing not tagging”  James kind of believes him and goes up on the sign and tags is he writes K-Bones.

Although Kris is rebellious throughout the story there are times when he was not so bad. For example, the time when he brought James and Issac a Lakers hat. He did not have to do that, but he did because he thought it was a kind gesture. But James and Issac did know he was trying to trick them with the hat so they did not take it so again being rebellious. He was trying to trick them by making James and Issac take the hat because if they took the hat then James and Isaac would be considered part of the gang.

From this essay, I  hope you learned that throughout the story Kris is rebellious Because he does illegal acts he is dishonest and manipulative. Kris was rebellious throughout the story from the beginning till the very end and he will remain rebellious until he repays for all the bad things he has done and can change his way of life.
