Did you know that the birthplace of Democracy started in Greece? Now, twenty three countries are a full democracy. Greece, however, has more to it than just the birthplace of Democracy. In addition to the mainland, there are more than 200 islands. Also, Greece has a history dating back to B.C. This report will take the reader on a trip through the geography, history, government, people, and the economy of Greece.

Greece is a peninsula surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea located in the Northern Hemisphere and is a part of the European Continent. Greece borders four different countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and the Republic of Macedonia. The mainland of Greece is very mountainous, in fact, 80% of Greece is covered in mountains. From many of these mountains, you can visibly see exotic beaches of the mediterranean. Greece’s climate is a warm mediterranean climate, with temperatures ranging between 42-92 degrees. Snowfall only occurs 4-5 days per year on average. Greece has over 5500 different plant species, which makes it one of the most biologically diverse nations in Europe. The most common plants that grow are Evergreen trees, cypress, pine and shrub. 

In Greece, there are a variety of different animals that roam freely, including: Brown bears, lynx, wild boars, deer, wild goats, and even camels!

The population of Greece is 10.72 million (2020). To put this in perspective, this is roughly the population of the state of Georgia. Most of the population resides in Thessaloniki, with 812,000 (2021) people living there. Greece’s second most populated city is the capital city, Athens. This wasn’t the case just a few years ago. Athens had been dominant in population, while still maintaining 650,000 people, however, in 2011, Thessaloniki’s population was 315,196 people. The people of Greece enjoy plenty of history, mountains, and beyond beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean Sea. Moussaka, Lamb, and Spanakopita are among the people’s ultimate favorite food.

The economy of Greece is the 54st largest economy in the world. In the European Union, Greece ranks 16th, out of twenty-seven. Greece generates $189.410 billion per annum. 

Greece uses Euros as their main currency of trade. If you are traveling from a country that doesn’t use euros, you will have to find somewhere that will let you convert your money into euros, such as a bank or even at the airport. You can even convert cryptocurrency into euros.

Lots of people living in Greece grow olives, grapes (either to make wine or just to sell as produce) and flowers. Not only can they sell it within themselves,but they also can export it for people all around the world to enjoy. Greeks also export a lot of sheep dairy products, such as Feta Cheese. In 2019, Greece was the leading producer of perlite, which is a natural fertilizer that helps gardeners, around the world, to keep their plants living healthy. 

Mining for iron ore, tourism, and agriculture are among Greece’s biggest industries. In 2019, Greece had 31.3 million tourists. Which generated 38.1 billion euros in 2019. So tourism in Greece is a very big business for them. Greece produces 2,284 tons of iron per year. They are ranked 26th for most iron mined per year out of the world. Iron ore is very important for industries who produce their products with iron.

Greece is such a scenic country, which is the reason why millions among millions of people come back each year to visit. From beautiful beaches, towering mountains and outstanding food, it seems that just about everything in Greece is amazing!
