To the Canadian government and non-indigenous people, I would like to talk about an issue that is not talked about enough. We need to stand up for the indigenous people that live in Canada. The Canadian government chooses to not listen to the indigenous people that are calling for their rights and they choose to ignore them.

There are many issues that are not brought to our non-indigenous peoples' eyes. Some issues in the current system are that many Indigenous communities have made some progress in improving health education, but Indigenous peoples continue to be at a higher risk of sickness and mortality than non-Indigenous peoples. Chronic disorders like diabetes and heart disease are becoming more common. Income, social issues, and health are all linked in some way. Inadequate housing and congested living circumstances contribute to a greater risk of respiratory issues . Many unpleasant, demoralizing remnants of colonialism may be traced back to education, the most ubiquitous of which is the Indian Residential School system, which is the ultimate national experiment in assimilation. Historically, Indigenous. Peoples have had greater unemployment rates than non-Indigenous.These are only some of the issues there are way more issues that have not come out

This issue doesn’t affect us because we are given everything and all our basic needs. This issue affects indigenous communities because even if they bring these issues to the government the government does not help with anything. They are losing many indigenous community members due to higher risks of sickness. They are not given many job offers because the non-indigenous people get the jobs before or are given the jobs. Many indigenous people were not able to finish school because they were afraid. Some reasons why we should care about the indigenous  people are because Indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities, for starters, are more likely to be poor. Despite making up only 5% of the worldwide population, Indigenous Peoples account for over 15% of the world's severe poverty. They are overrepresented in the population. In Latin America, you're three times more likely to be poor if you originate from an indigenous family than if you come from a non-indigenous family in the same location. Second, despite progress, Indigenous Peoples and ethnic minorities continue to be excluded and disadvantaged, with unequal access to basic services because of prejudice, harassment, and a lack of respect for cultural norms, indigenous women from India to Peru are less likely to use healthcare facilities for childbirth. The life expectancy of indigenous peoples is up to 20 years lower than that of non-indigenous peoples around the world. Despite considerable expansions in basic services, indigenous groups in Latin America have 15 percent and 18 percent less access to sanitation and power, respectively, than the rest of the region.

I currently want all indgenous people and children to get the same rights as us non-indigenous people. I want them to get the jobs they want and I want them to get more job offers just like us non-indigenous people. I want the indigenous people that are sick to get the help they need and their death rate not be as high as it is. These are changes that everyone should already have, no one should fight for these basic needs. This makes me really sad that our Canadian government can not  offer these basic needs.

This is a big issue but we choose to ignore it because it does not affect us in any way. If you were to think about it, why does the government treat indigenous people so differently than us?   Is it because they are different from us non-indigenous people? They should be given their needs and rights!
