Personal Essay Example: My Favorite Technology is Video Games

One of the great technological advances are gaming consoles.  There are many different reasons why I believe that gaming consoles are amazing and there are many reasons why they are my favorite technological advancement.  I know that video games have severely changed my life and I know that it was for the better. Better. My relationships with friends and family have become even stronger because of video games and games and I know that they believed the same as I. It can be an amazing tool for many people but I realized that not all people will agree with that statement. I believe that video games are doing more good than they are bad.

One main reason that video games are my favorite is because they're fun.. They can really take one away from the world for a little bit which can be very helpful in some cases. That is one main reason but I do have many more. They can actually be very healthy for one and they are always going to be so long as one uses it in moderation. I actually found on the Internet that video games “Can improve hand eye coordination problem solving skills and the mind's ability to process information” (Hirsch ,MD, 1)  Those are all great skills that can be learned through other techniques but video games are a very easy way to learn. Another main reason why I think video games are very important is that it improves many relationships. I have many friends that live very far away and/or away and my main source of communication with them is through video games. A website I found claims “The number of gamers in the world as of 2020 was roughly 2.77 billion” (WePlay 1)  That's insane to think about considering how many people you can meet throughout the entire video game community. .Another great thing about video games is that there are so many different genres to choose from one could not be left out from the rest of the video game community no matter what game they play.

My life has infinitely gotten better because of video games. I believe that there is definitely a certain amount of time one can spend while playing video games because there must be a moderation to the amount of video games that one will play. If this issue is ignored that is when the “bad” part of video games come in.  It is very important for people to still know how to socialize in real life but it is not of the devil to play video games. There are many times in my life where I use them to escape reality for a minute. It is always nice to know that there is something else in the world that one can leave to go and enjoy. Life can suck for a little bit and having an outlet is a very healthy way to express how one can feel. Video games can be a very useful technique of getting rid of built up energy. Another thing that video games offer is when one is in this state one can always know they're not alone. I discovered a website that expounds on this subject ,it states “ 92% of US teen boys play video games on a console” (WePlay 2)  Of course there are many different reasons why someone would play video games but I know that this is one of the main reasons why teenage boys play video games. Video games also have a very nice, and controlled way to play safely and not get into any severe trouble so therefore it is a very safe way to get out any unwanted emotions. Knowing this actually makes me a lot closer with a lot of friends that I have through playing video games. I have one friend in particular that I've never actually met but we are pretty good friends and I only know him through video games. I tell him a lot of important stuff and he does the same which I believe can really help a lot of people. Video games aren't the only way that this can happen but are a very safe and easy way for a lot of people to do it. Another thing is they're fun to play. Video games can genuinely bring a lot of people together.

From my own personal experience I know that video games have brought in a lot of my family closer together. I have a cousin that lives in Texas that I would not know nearly as much as I do now if it weren't for video games. I consider him one of my best friends and I have probably seen him only ten to fifteen times my entire life. Because of video games I know that our relationship has gone a lot better and it is way more fun when I get to see him because of all the memories we have of playing video games. Another thing that blows my mind is that I am two years older than him but it feels like we are hours apart. I believe that he has a great relationship with his father because of video games. When his dad was in Iraq serving in the military he was allowed to play video games with this son that lived in Germany. This is very important for their entire family and even with my family who was able to also play games with my uncle while he was serving. It is always a good time when my dad and I are able to play with my cousin and my uncle. I believe that it brings all of us together and it is always something fun to talk about when we are in person. That is the online experience of playing video games with loved ones but there is also a much funnier way to play which is which is right on the couch. Some of my favorite memories are of me playing split screen with my sisters. Even though we got into very many arguments. It was some of the greatest memories I have with them. We even still talk about some of those today. My father and I also play a lot of video games together which I just one main reason why I believe that we are so close. No matter what it is always a good time to play and enjoy being together as a family. Another website said “70% of parents say gaming has positively impacted their child's lives” (WePlay 3)  I know that my parents would definitely agree. I believe that video games are very good for people when they live far apart so that they can interact with one another and truly learn about each other.

Another great thing about video games is they are not gender specific or age demanding. Anybody can play video games. I love that my  84 year old grandmother plays video games. She does this so that she can stay fit. I love that video games can be an exercise for her to where she is in a safe environment and so that we know she won't get hurt. Even though more boys do play video games, girls are actually statistically better at games than boys are. While playing video games I have actually met girls who have played which is always kind of weird because they are like the black sheep of the group but they are pretty good. A study shows” They found that action game training boosted the scores of the female participants more than the male participants.” (Fleming 2)  I think that this is really cool because I believe that anyone should be able to do anything that they like and it's great that they can be good at what they like. At many family reunions we used to have a game that we would all play which was really fun because we could have my grandparents playing with us which made it even better. Nothing is like having everyone enjoy themselves and video games will always do that no matter what. Through many generations video games do not get the credit that they deserve. Video games are good for people no matter how much people say the opposite, it's true.

My favorite technology is video games because they control the good in people. There are many reasons why they're my favorite which I have expounded upon in this essay. I know that video games have affected my life for the better and many others feel the same. One website states “ The children and teenagers in each study were more likely to help others in real life or in simulated tasks” (Fleming 3) This shows that games will truly help evolve the personality of a young kid into something incredible. I know for a fact that my friend's family have become way closer because of video games. All ages can enjoy the worlds that video games can curate. Some people believe video games are on the devil but if given a chance I believe gaming can do more good than harm.
