A rebel is a person who rises in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler. In our everyday lives there is rebellion all around us, whether it’s positive or negative. Rebellion can be anything from the revolutionary war to lying to your parents. Everyone has their definition of rebel and it all is about how you see it. We are surrounded by rebellion and rebellious people. Without rebellion, the world would be a different place.

In the Book Americanized: Rebel Without A Green Card you read about the teenage life of Sara Saedi. Sara Saedi is an immigrant who moved from Iran to America as a child; she was most definitely a rebel. One major act of rebellion that stood out was when Sara experimented with drugs. Sara’s father often told her that if she wanted to try drugs she should do so at home, where he can look after her. Though one day Sara’s sister Samira, and one of Samira’s friends thought that it would be funny to give Sarag drugs so she would get high. When she did her head was in a lot of pain, she thought she might die, and she regretted it. Even though it may not have been her intention, she still was being a rebel and rose against her father’s authority.

The world around us was built from rebellion against whoever is in authority. Without this rebellion, the world would most likely be ruled by a king or queen and everyone would act the same way. We would have no freedom. Not only that, we would not be able to fight for freedom either because we would just accept whatever the ruler plans since fighting is rebellion. In the real world, people are divided by opinions. The Civil War took place out of an act of rebellion because people had different opinions on slavery, the people rebelled. Some people thought slavery was awful and that people should not be sold, beaten, and treated like they were animals. Others thought that slaves did not matter, that they were less than, and created to be used and abused. Both groups thought what they were doing was correct. Both sides thought that what they were doing was an act of positive rebellion. People will always have different opinions which is why sometimes an act of rebellion will seem positive or negative to you based on your perception, not by a fact.

Another act of rebellion that will seem positive or negative to you based on your perception is people wearing what makes them comfortable. In experience, not everyone has seen much life-changing rebellion that will forever change the world, but everyone does see rebellion that changes the way that people think. In today’s modern society, people can wear whatever they feel comfortable in and that makes some people upset. For instance, Harry Styles may wear a dress and it may make some people mad because they may think that men cannot wear dresses; some people think clothes have gender, so people don’t. Sometimes people even rebel and intentionally dress a certain way to create controversy. This act of rebellion brings about discussion in the world that is much needed, and that is that people should not have a say over other people’s lives and how they live it. Not only that but it also brings about the discussion that sometimes people can be offended by others’ clothing choices and not even know why they are offended. While people may say that it is not rebellion because there isn’t anyone in power who has set any rules about what people wear, but the people who act as if they have power over others may act as if they are the authority. Sometimes the world needs rebellious people to make everyone else see more clearly.

Seeing more clearly is important. Rebellion opens our eyes up to see more about the structure of the world we live in. Sometimes it can create chaos because everyone sees things differently and has different opinions. But also, it can create peace. Rebellion can help people better understand their own opinions and without those opinions, the world would be a completely different place. Rebellion can and does change anything and everything.
