Society can and should support at-risk youths. Millions of youths per year have to go through horrible situations. From behavior issues, poverty, drug use, and gang activity. Society can do a better job to help these teens avoid these situations. Youth programs, role models, and mentors can all help teens at risk worldwide.

Youth programs can help at-risk youths. Youth programs can help these teens by keeping them out of the street. These programs can reunite communities to help them by keeping them occupied from doing the bad. Teens can find new hobbies, make new friends, and develop skills from their programs that can help them in their future life. This was seen in “The Other Wes Moore.” Wes was able to overcome his adversity by talking to counselors and attending youth programs. These youth programs have a big impact on these children's future in their choice to stay on the streets or to change their life. Youth programs can help at-risk teens.

Youths at risk can also be helped by role models and mentors. Most children are not bad people but do need a push in the right direction. These mentors and role models can affect the way these children make their decisions and how they view their surroundings. Sometimes all someone needs is a message from somebody important in their life for them to change for the better. These role models can motivate the teen to be better every day and it can change them. Unfortunately, however, some children do not have anyone to look up to and mentor from.  These teens who sadly do not have a role model can try to attend things like counseling to help influence their future decisions. This was seen in “The Other Wes Moore.” When Wes was trying to change his life for the better his mother helped him and guided him. If his mother was not there for him he might have not been able to change his life around.

Society can help at-risk youths by having youth programs to help them get on track, role models and mentors can help the teens as well by pushing them to succeed, and counseling can be used to help the teens that do not have a role model to look up to.
