Theme of Morality in to Kill a Mockingbird Literary Analysis Essay Example

By investigating the morality of the characters in the worlds they create, authors allow readers to learn from past events and understand the world around them. Harper Lee’s Bildungsroman To Kill a Mockingbird allows audiences an insight into morality, as the protagonist Scout’s point of view and world outlook shifts throughout the course of the novel based on observing the behaviors of others. As Scout grows, the audience reflects on the different moral lessons this story conveys and connects this to their own worlds. As the investigate of Tom Robison is the important key of the story, the audience have open eyes about the good and evil or especially the morality of the Finch family to the outside world 
Calpurnia who is like the mother figure of the Finch’s family, she has done wonderful job in educating Jem and Scout in the small everyday lesson. Calpurnia once said : "There are some folks who don't eat like us," she whispered fiercely, "but you ain't called on to contradict 'em at the table when they don't. That boy's yo' comp'ny and if he wants to eat up the table cloth you let him, you hear?" In the quote, Calpurnia is trying to use the tone to change the situations which made make the quote become a more serious lesson that Scout has to understand for life and about the moral of human being while not mistreating different people level in the Maycomb society. Calpurnia's moral lesson here is to tolerate other people's differences, even if you believe you are superior to them. And appearing superior to others is the surest way to demonstrate that you are not
Secondly , the next quote is from Atticus while having a conversation with Jem . "Son, I have no doubt that you've been annoyed by your contemporaries about me lawing for n******, as you say, but to do something like this to a sick old lady is inexcusable. I strongly advise you to go down and have a talk with Mrs. Dubose," said Atticus. "Come straight home afterwards. The dialogue of the quote is showing the solving conflict advice of Atticus to Jem which allow the audience has open-minded about the morality of Harper Lee’s character to their son . Even when people do things that make Atticus want to eat spiders, he believes they should be treated with dignity and equality. Just because Mrs. Dubose lashes out at Jem doesn't give him the right to hit back in his moral framework. Atticus' moral regarding the occurrences serves as a lesson for Jem, who is still growing up and changing in each chapter. 
Lastly, While the Tom Robison trial is the important key of the story. With that, there are two sides of the story that can reflect the morality inside different people in Maycomb. “ Yeah, but Atticus aims to defend him. That’s what I don’t like about” The Idlers' Club member. The remark refers to how the racial views of the town members affected Atticus' morals during the Tom Robison trial. It's easy to see how the Tom Robison trial has strained the town's morale, and it's likely that it will continue to do so even if Tom Robison doesn't do anything.
