True Friendship in “Freak the Mighty” and “Amigo Brothers” Essay Example

Do you have somebody that you simply see as your entire world? Would you accept and adhere by that individual indeed in spite of the fact that they weren't acknowledged in society? That's what you call genuine friendship. True friendship is sticking together no matter what. Max and Kevin from “Freak the Mighty” by Rodman Philbrick, and Felix and Antonio from “Amigo Brothers” by Piri Thomas, have diverse shapes of friendships, but they remain by each other's side, relinquishing things they need and tolerating each great and terrible portion of each other no matter how one looks or their measure. The authors show us this through the conflict, plot, and mood. 

The conflict in “Freak the Mighty” is different from the conflict in “Amigo Brothers” because it’s Max and Kevin against the world. “In “Amigo Brothers” they had been informed that they were to meet in the division finals that were scheduled for the seventh of August, two weeks away the winner to represent the Boys Club in the Gloden Gloves Championship Tournament.” Antonio and Felix have to fight each other in order to achieve their dream. “Max Kane, a learning-impaired adolescent of giant proportions, is called “Mad Max” and taunted relentlessly about his father, Killer Jane, in jail for killing Max’s mother.” “I already mentioned a few of the names I’ve been called.” Max is made insulted tirelessly since he is enormous compared to everyone else, but Kevin is made fun of since of his genetically malformed body. Max and Kevin are battling against society, but Antonio and Felix are fighting against each other.

“Max hates school, and prefers the seclusion of his basement room…until a new boy moves in next door.” Max and Kevin just moved in next door. “So I’m thinking about that for a while, lying there in the cellar dark, and pretty soon the down under starts to get small, like the walls are shrinking, and I go up the bulkhead stairs into the back yard and I find a place where I can check it out.” They don’t meet until Max decides to check out the place behind this backyard. “They had known each other since childhood, growing up on the lower east side of manhattan in the same tenement building on Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B.” Antonio and Felix have always known each other. The plots of the two stories are different because Max and Kevin met at a later stage in life, but Antonio and Felix have known each other since childhood.
