A Man Named Scott is a documentary about the artist Scott Mescudi, also known as Kid Cudi, that is wis well produced around well interviews artist, artists, fans, and friends that have heart warming stories around their relationships with Scott. The film is directed by Robert Alexander and produced by Christian Noviello and Brandon Riley. The focus of the documentary is what happened on the way to becoming who he is known as today, Kid Cudi. This documentary breaks down he became the man he is today and what he has struggled on the journey of becoming who he is today, letting people know that fame doesn’t happen overnight.

The documentary goes on to show many aspects and footage of the journey he was on. They go on to show many concerts that he performed. The footage that is also show is when he was in the studio thinking about what the beat of his songs to and what they should be like or the outline of his songs. The footage was very clear, and very eye opening, as I see the way he looked and acted at concerts as time passed by. The documentary also includes footage of when he first reacted to when his song Day ‘N’ Nite was played on the radio for the first time on the radio. What was also one of the most seen aspects were clips of him lip syncing his songs that were being played.

The most thing that was seen most in the documentary was the interviews. The interviews included the artists that he has collaborated with or inspired to become who they are in the present because of his music. The interviews also include Scott, but he is more of the narrator of the story and the main character. Scott talks about how one of the artists that are featured in the documentary Kanye West has brought him out his dark space and lets him know that it is okay to be in a dark space. Some of the artists and people included in the documentary include Timothee Chalamet, Shia LeBeouf, Willow Smith, Jaden Smith, Lil Yachty, Pharrell Williams, Asap Rocky and Travis Scott.

What is also a big part of the documentary is the music. The music that is played in every clip or throughout the documentary is from the albums that he has released. The way the play in order is the order that he talks about his albums, which he first starts off with his most known album, Man on the Moon: At the End of the Day. He talks about how he progresses but doesn’t look back on his past because he doesn’t want to go through what he did during the making of his albums. What was played during the movie wasn’t all the songs from each album though. What was mostly played was the well-known songs from his most well know albums, which is a good aspect when explaining the meanings of them.

When watching the documentary what most fascinated me was the fact that he was very open in front of a camera, which a lot of people arent’t. He speaks in confidence and calmly, but it doesn’t go with the things he talks about, such as him talking about him being in rehab for him being an alcoholic. Fans talking about how he has saved their lives through his music and the meanings behind his music, some even relate to the lyrics, or the story was also a big aspect of the documentary. I believe that A Man Named Scott is more of a documentary on the side where if you want to get to know a person more, it is more of a biopic than a documentary, since it is more about him and his struggles. I believe that the most thing that added to the documentary was the fact that he had opened up, let the audience know that it is okay to be in a dark place, that it is okay to be sad, that it is okay to different and open minded. The way that he has became the person he is today was through him taking what he was going through and putting it into a song; letting everything that was thought flow out into a song.
