Argumentative Essay On Peaceful Resistance

Peaceful Measures against unequal rights are more effective because there are no clashes. Violent protests have brawls and a harmful impact on our environment. Violent protests may also cause the deaths of certain people. Not only do violent protests create harm but they don’t seem to resolve the problem since both sides don’t sort the matter out between them. In the 7 Influential Protests in American History article the author mentions that “Since the ‘90s, the Supreme Court has established several landmark rulings that have put protections in place for and removed discriminatory laws against the LGBTQ community.” The LGBTQ community had resisted and done a violent protest that surprisingly worked. However, peaceful postures have been demonstrated to result far more successfully than violent ones as more peaceful stances have worked compared to aggressive ones. In the 5 Peaceful Protests That Led to Social and Political Changes the author indicates that “Cesar Chavez advocated for peaceful boycotts, protest, and a grueling yet nonviolent 25-day hunger strike which led to legislative changes to end exploitative abuse of America’s farm workers in the late 1960s. He led a five-year strike in Delano, Calif., bringing together over 2,000 farmers to demand minimum wage primarily for underpaid overworked Filipino farmworkers.” 

Cesar Chavez led a peaceful boycott with over 2000 farmers to demand minimum wage. Many of these farmers went for the right to get paid properly. However, many of them went not only to get their fair share of money but because it’s secure and knowing that they wouldn’t get harmfully affected by joining this peaceful boycott. The boycott turned out to be successful because this “helped secure unions, better wages and security for farmworkers.” Cesar Chavez’s peaceful boycott eventually turned out to be successful just like the Montgomery Bus Boycott. In the 5 Peaceful Protests That Led to Social and Political Changes the author notes that “Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus in Montgomery, Ala., is one such example. Her defiant act symbolized greater civil rights, spreading the message that all people deserve equal seats.” When Rosa Park refused to give up her seat to a white passenger she was arrested. 

Due to this the African American community stayed off the buses. The African American community acted like this to rebel since what happened to Rosa Parks was unfair and many of them acted like this because it wasn’t a violent step. Since the African American community acted like this for a whole year the U.S supreme court recognized that segregation on public buses is unconstitutional. Rosa Park’s refusal to give her seat as well as Cesar Chavez’s peaceful boycott show how peaceful actions can change the world more than violent ones. Moreover, peaceful protests are more secure so more people participate in them.
