Martin Luther King And Malcolm X Essay Sample

Some may think that Martin Luther King and Malcom X had different beliefs because of how they executed them, but their beliefs were not that different from one another. During the 1960s in America, things were segregated and unfair for African americans. White people got treated significantly better and African Americans were tired of it.  During that time, African Americans could not vote due to Jim Crow laws and there were also separate bathrooms, cemeteries, and schools for African American. There were wage gaps and less African Americans working during this time. A mix of Malcom x and Martin Luther King's strategies were both efficient for the 1960s to achieve equal education, nonviolence, and economy.

According to doc A (the course of american economic growth and development, 1970) in the 1960s 63.7% of white people and 38.6% of african americans completed high school. There were significantly less African Americans completing high school during the 1960s because of lack of encouragement and  because their schools were not as well maintained as white schools. The white schools were all together better because they had funding for new things unlike the african americans schools. Both Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were passionate about ending school segregation, Malcolm X founded the “basic unity program”’ and Martin Luther King made speeches about the topic.  In document E, Malcolm X encourages African Americans to divide original education methods and procedures while Martin Luther King marches no matter what happens. Both of their methods were effective but malcolm X’s strategy was more effective, his strategy showed white people if they didn't want to provide equal for african americans they will provide equal from themselves, martin luther king wanted march and show the white people how badly african americans wanted and deserved equal education.

A speach given by martin luther king in 1966 addresses how violence does not solve problems and it does not murder dishonesty. Martin Luther King believed it was wrong and did not establish the truth. Both Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were in agreement about violence  being wrong during this time. Unlike Martin Luther King, Malcolm X believed it was something that could be needed. Malcolm X was a “realist”, he wanted change fast and he knew that would happen if African Americans were violent about it. African Americans were preached to about non-violence but the ku klux klan and white people in general were not and that was not right to malcolm x. Although he only agreed with violence if it was self defense it was against Martin Luther King's values. Martin Luther King's strategy was more sufficient for this time, he was correct about how being violent would be used against them and it would only make white people hate them more.    

Malcom X, unlike martin luther king wanted to create resources for african americans instead of boycotting and and picketing. MAlcolm x stated in document G, he wanted to teach African Americans the importance of owning and operating businesses so they didn't have to depend on white people. Martin Luther King was still boycotting, in document F, he explained how by boycotting companies who did not hire African Americans their income had gone up by two million dollars annually. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were doing almost the same thing by not supporting white businesses but Malcolm X's plan was more thought out. Not only was he boycotting their businesses, he was creating opportunities for his community.
