What do people think when they see graffiti? Is it art, vandalism, or both? Graffiti is writing or drawing made on a wall or another surface. When talking about this form of art, many picture not very appealing-looking handwriting on walls or train wagons. Some people might find it interesting to look at, while others despise them.

First, it depends on the work of the artist. While everyone has different tastes in art, I believe most are not huge fans of random scribbles on the walls. Most of the time, their message consists of foul language, tagging, and inappropriate scenes. This can cause contempt.

However, not all are like this. Many fit the environment, carry a meaningful message, and are nice to look at. Many artists had done an amazing job pleasing the public eye. When I see beautiful graffiti of animals, flowers, or even portraits of different people, I can't help but stop to admire it.

Second, the artist needs permission. If the art is done on private property without the owner's permission, it is a crime. The picture can be extremely well done, but it still is considered to be vandalism.

Although, this is not usually the case. Most artists use spray paint which is difficult to use. They also work relatively slow, so the paint has time to dry and doesn't ruin their work. If we talk about beautiful pieces of graffiti that can be admired, the artist needs a lot of time and patience. If they were under pressure of being caught, I doubt the pieces would turn out that well for others to admire. So in most cases, they do have permission the draw on the surface to either make it more interesting or to cover up previous graffiti.

In conclusion, graffiti will be both art and vandalism. We have to choose how to have others perceive art.  Graffiti provides a way for people to express themselves. I believe people should be more open-minded when it comes to art and not judge it too easily.
