Essay Sample about Teaching

Teaching is the process of transferring knowledge from the teacher to students. By this definition, the success of teaching must be dependent on the academic environment created by the teacher and the students. Both parties are needed to perform their tasks responsibly to yield a high quality teaching. The recommendation states that highly successful teaching can be best achieved by complementing positive behaviors and ignoring negative ones. In my opinion, this is not the best strategy and therefore strongly disagree with the recommendation for the following reasons.

To begin with, it is undeniable that praising positive actions will surely enhanced the quality of teaching as the students feel that their efforts are respected and rewarded. This incentivize the students to maintain their level of accomplishment and even motivates them to do better. For instance, a student that always comes to school on time, render active participation in class, and score high mark in their examination, when he or she is praised for these behaviors, will be feeling respected by the teachers and also by his or her peers. As a result, this give motivation to keep demonstrating these good behaviors, even encourage him or her to do more, for instance by helping other students. This brings about good academic environment which is eventually yield successful teaching.

However, it is nothing good for ignoring negative ones. This shall deteriorate the students’ performance, affect other students, and finally destroy the academic environment. Students who conduct negative ones may feel that it is okay for them to do that since their teachers do not really care about them. For example, imagine a student who always come late, but the teacher never bother to remind or sanctioned him. This shall incentivize him to repeat this mistake that makes him missed certain important topics. Because no concern from the teacher, he will even make a worst mistake, such as not attending school in days or weeks or does not do his homework. With this behavior, he surely will not pass the exam. The situation can be even worse when other students follow his action. This will significantly destroy the academic environment.

Rather than ignoring the mistakes, the teacher should remind the students, or even sanctions them when it is needed. By doing this, the students shall understand that their making mistake and know the consequences. This will motivate the students to do better in the future. By reminding and sanctioned them, the students will also know that teacher care about them and love them. This will motivate the students to share their problem with the teacher and ask for an advise. In this way, both teacher and students have developed good academic environment that can guarantee the success of teaching.

In conclusion, based on the abovementioned arguments, the best way to teach is to praise good behaviours and correct negative ones. This will create good academic environment which enable the accomplishment of successful teaching.
