Have you ever turned on a light switch in the dark? Well without Thomas Edision, you would be using other dangerous sources of light, like torches. Thomas Edison is one of the most famous inventors in the world and is someone who has benefited society like none other with his inventions. He has amazed everyone with his incandescent light bulb (which is still in use today and is popular), phonograph, and much more. In addition, Edison won numerous awards and achievements. Even though everything appeared to be going well, Thomas Edison faced countless obstacles that almost demolished his whole career. He almost lost faith in himself. Despite the problems he faced, Thomas Edison is a hero who influenced the modern days.

Thomas Edison had a childhood that stood out from others. Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio. He had a family with two parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters. Unlike other kids, Thomas Edison did not have a passion for toys. As a kid, he had an interest in chemistry, technology, and enjoyed doing experiments. Thomas Edison has been kicked out of his school because of his disability. He was 100% deaf in his left ear, and 80% deaf in his right year. His mother had no choice but to homeschool him. He was taught the usual subjects; reading, writing, science, and math at home.

For elementary school, his school life wasn’t so great. He had a disability where he was partially deaf. Thomas Edison did not know how to read because of this condition. The teachers kept on making comments about him. Although, things started getting better later on. For his college education, Thomas Edison attended “The Cooper Union”. It was no surprise when Thomas Edison enrolled in a chemistry course in high school. In his free time, he made progress in his inventions. This poor man did not earn a degree until he died.

Back then, it was dangerous to use any source of lights. Torches and other sources cause accidents and in most cases, the items set homes on fire. People could not do any activities past dark. Safety was very concerning back then. Problems were building up. Thomas Edison needed to find a long-lasting, reliable, and high-quality source of light. It took him at least 1,200 unsuccessful tries. He kept on making mistake after mistake, but he kept on trying. Thomas Edison was determined to make life easier. It was not until a year later until that moment came. He finally invented the light bulb and solved most of the problems. It was cheap, high-quality, and it lasted long.

Thomas Edison is a true hero. He had many problems that almost ruined his whole career, but he persevered. He kept on going until he aimed for what he wanted. He made many accomplishments along the way. While working at a job as a telegrapher operator, he saved a 3-year old from a runaway train. He also built a chemistry lab on his train. Predictably chemistry was a great passion of his. While working on an experiment, he got fired because of an accident that occurred. Thomas Edison also earned the title of making the first cat video. Many people will not forget the creations he made for us today. It is no surprise how Thomas Edison has been described as the greatest inventor in history.
