What if I told you volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world? Volleyball is a sport where it challenges your mental and physical strength. This sport is an effortless sport to learn but is difficult to master. The volleyball legend Hinata Shoyo once said “ Everyone on this side of the court is your ally.” Volleyball strengthens your teamwork and different skills in life, such as hand-eye coordination, agility, speed, and balance. Volleyball has also proved to improve mental health. Volleyball is a skill that can help you later on in life.

First, in volleyball, you have to trust your team. Like any sport, it is crucial to trust your teammates. Volleyball is like a machine, all of the players are like different parts of the machine. If one part does not work or isn't there the machine won’t function. In volleyball, there are different positions. One of the positions is a setter, a setter is the brain of the team. They are the ones who are the most creative and the ones who are in the center of the plays. The hitters or the “spikers” have to learn to trust the setter but, you also have to trust your other teammates too. For example, if someone is blocking a spike, and the ball gets past them they have to rely on the receivers to get the ball. This is an actual play professional volleyball players use, this is another example of strong teamwork and trust. "One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team." -Archie Griffin, this quote describes the chemistry of a volleyball team.

Studies have shown that volleyball has improved different skills such as coordination, agility, and more. In volleyball one of the most crucial parts of the game is serving. Throughout the game, the serve is the only time you can get a point independently. Good serves require great hand-eye coordination, this is because lots of serves are pinpoint serves. Pinpoint serves are served in which the server hits the ball to a specific place on the court. This is an example of superb hand-eye coordination. In addition, volleyball also improves agility and speed. In volleyball, the game requires you to move to wherever the ball is. This includes jumping, sprinting, etc. all of that builds muscle, which can help you later in life. Did you know the equivalent amount of energy spent jogging a mile is the same as a vigorous minute-long volleyball game? This shows how much jumping and effort can go in such a short time while playing volleyball.

Did you know that volleyball can improve mental health? A study in 2008 showed that men who engage in regular team sports (including volleyball) have better leadership, networking, and cooperation skills than people who were less involved in team sports. Studies have also shown that people who play volleyball have more of a boosted mood and an increased sense of success. Volleyball can also relieve stress, encourage pride, self-esteem, self-confidence, and makes you happier in general.

In conclusion, volleyball is a sport that helps you with a variety of things. It is a sport loved by more than 800 million people. Volleyball is a sport that doesn’t only test your physical strength but also your mental strength. It builds muscle, confidence, leadership, coordination, and teamwork. But most importantly, it is fun.
