‘Maleficent’ directed by Robert Stromberg, released in 2014, utilises the film techniques to give the audience a deeper understanding as regards to the film. ‘Maleficent’ is based on the original fairy tale ‘Sleeping beauty’, as prince Stefan was in an urge to become king, he betrayed Maleficent and stole her wings. The film ends with the ultimate battle to survive, king Stafan was in deely confident in himself but Aurora found Maleficent's wings, and king Stafen was thrown off from the very top of the castle and died. The director was able to strongly show the two film techniques of Cinematography and Mise-en-scene to the audience to show them the characters emotions and personalities. The director exhibits Cinematography in a very clear way to the audience and gives them a good expression of how the characters are feeling and facial expressions. Secondly the director shows many different examples of Mise-en-scene during the film, it gives the audience a visual message about the characters. In the film ‘Maleficent’ the director shows lots of amazing Cinematography scenes with a very clear view for the audience. Cinematography is a film technique used in film to express the characters facial and body language better to the audience. The viewer looks out for eye-catching senses with a clear view which is when Cinematography comes in to make the ones watching more appealing to the movie. This is a great example of a visual message as the different camera shots and angles are used to show a deeper part of the characters. This is evident in the Conflict scene, where the Cinematography element had been used, all eight elements of Cinematography had been shown very wisely throughout the whole film. The close-up shot of Maleficent looking at king Henry right before their fight. This shoot shows Maleficent looking at king Henry in disuccset moments before their fight over the Moors, the audience could see the facial expressions of Maleficent and how she's feeling. The director chose this shoot because it gives attention to the audience to show what the characters emotions are. Altogether this shows the audience the importance of Cinematography and why it's used. In the film ‘Maleficent’ the director has shown the audiences a clear idea of Mise-en-scene during the revenge sense at Aurora's christening. Mise-en-scene is a film technique used to express the characters and their personalities through their costumes. The audience usually want something that’s out there and extraordinary, in Mise-en-scene the director shows multiple mind blowing costumes, make, ect..,this makes the audience more interested in what’s happening in the sense. This is shown in the Mise-en-scene element, where the characters' costumes are shown. This scene shows Maleficent wearing her cap which is considered her of the Moors, the big black dress that she wore at the christening revals to the audience that she’s in deedly powerful, stronge and full of magic. The director chose these costumes because the audience will be amazed and it gives everyone an explanation on who Maleficent really is.
