Did you ever read Pride and Prejudice and question the theme of the book? This novel is about many people who live in different locations. These people have different statutes and views of life. Some of them want love and marriage, but others don’t want that, and prefer to be married not for the sake of love. There are countless arguments in the novel, and eventually the main characters get what they wished for, which is to be  in a happy marriage. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, this book represents a love story.

The first reason is Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship with each other. An example is how they first met. They met at the Meryton ball, and Darcy didn’t want to talk with anyone or dance either. Darcy then saw Elizabeth alone by herself and told her that she was  a leftover and useless. Darcy says to Elizabeth at the ball, “She is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt me.” This quote means that Darcy didn’t want any business with Elizabeth. This is very coincidental when they both get back together at the end of the novel. Elizabeth then disliked Darcy throughout the novel due to his pride. They both had mixed feelings about each other, and they both had bad first impressions. The second example is when Wickham tried to convince Elizabeth to be with him. He put down Darcy and made Elizabeth believe that whatever he said  is true. Wickham puts down Darcy by telling him that he is a fake person and that  he has a lot of pride in himself. He also said that he is a despicable man who stole money from his  father. Elizabeth believed everything Wickham said because he tried to charm her and get her to like him since he owed debts to many people in the town and didn’t want anyone to find out, so he just said things that weren’t true just to ruin Darcy’s reputation as much as he could. He made it seem like he was being  innocent in this conversation. As a result, Elizabeth’s personality towards Darcy changed drastically due to Wickham’s lies. Darcy and Elizabeth's relationship has drifted even more, and she never knew Darcy was capable of these things. The third example is when Darcy proposed, she rejected him, and she said that she doesn’t like him. She said that everything he did to Wickham was terrible, but especially the separation of Jane and Bingley. They both showed emotions, and they parted ways. The last example is when they eventually proposed because both of their feelings changed. This happened because Darcy proved by the letter that Wickham was wrong. He told Elizabeth that Wickham tried to take advantage of the money he gave him and he had an affair with his sister. Elizabeth was shocked and she felt sympathetic for someone who she despised before. He also explained to Elizabeth why he separated Jane and Bingley. He said that Jane concealed her feelings and didn’t literally show she loved him. She hid her feelings. Finally, the most important thing is that he paid for all the expenses of Lydia’s marriage and  saved the family. He did this all for Elizabeth, and she recognized it. They then reunited again, and they loved each other. He also felt the same and they  got married, becoming a happy couple who fell in love. This is logical because, despite the conflicts, they still had feelings for each other. This relationship resembles a love story.

The second reason  why Pride and Prejudice is a love story is because of Jane and Bingley’s relationship in the novel. An example is how they met. It was a love at first sight relationship. They have loved each other since the Meryton ball and throughout the novel. A second example is when Bingley left Netherfield and Mrs. Bingley said they would never come back. Jane was devastated and was on the verge of giving up. It says here in the second volume,”Hope was over, entirely over.” This explains why Jane was frustrated with  the departure of the Bingley family. Jane didn’t stop loving him and wanted him to come back. They both really loved each other. The last example is when they finally got married. The letter wasn’t true, and Bingley came back to Netherfield, then he went to the Bennett house in Longbourn. This proves that he still liked her, otherwise he wouldn’t have come back. He then talked to Jane alone, and they both said they loved each other despite separation. After that, they got married and everyone in the Bennett family was delighted.

Many people argue that Pride and Prejudice is a story from the Regency Period. It could  be because of the way the girls would act at that time. How they couldn’t walk by themselves, and they had to have ladylike qualities like singing, dancing, and playing the piano. The way women were civil and had to be introduced to men is  not compared to our modern times. How people communicated through letters was also something in the Regency category. But my argument makes more sense because the whole story was about love. The dramatic points and the plot of the story were  about relationships. This book wasn’t about facts from the Regency Period, but how it depicted the time period. Darcy and Elizabeth, Jane and Bingley are all examples of real relationships that led to love stories. Prejudging people and having pride against people are all examples correlated to a love story book. Jane Austen was providing examples of the actual period, but her intention was to make this novel about a love story. As it says here, ”It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” This quote just confirms that this book is a love story. This is my argument for  why Pride and Prejudice is a love story.

In this essay, I gave several key facts as to why Pride and Prejudice is a love story. In life, love is a thing that happens even in our times. Love exists in many books of  literature. This book connects to the world because love and marriage are  a priority in our world. In the novel, love and marriage were necessities for characters in the novel. Without love, you can’t have a normal life. This is something that is relevant to our world today and is an interesting message that people can learn from. The main goal in life is to have love, and the novel represents that very well.
