The Decline of Christianity in America Essay Example

Christianity has been decreasing drastically and there are many reasons for this change. The change has been caused by technology, society, trends, laziness, covid, and people just having hard life experiences. The decrease is happening slowly, therefore the decrease can be reversed and Christianity can rise again. The future generations can advance and upsurge the growth and forthcoming of Christianity. 

As of late 1980, over 90% of Americans professed to be Christians. “By 2010 three out of four grown-ups professed to be Christian, and at present, just shy of two out of three makes a similar case”(arizonachristians.edu). Society nowadays is incredulous. Society wakes up every day and goes off to do their daily things. For Example, More than 23% of the United States population don't pray throughout their day(pewresearch.com). Society is too caught up on the latest model, singers, actors, sports, and other things and never takes the chance to interact with Christianity.294 million people in the United States spend an average of 5.4 hours throughout the day. People are on their phones checking out the latest things, their brains are trapped in a constant cycle of worldly things, they never think to take the time of their day to pray, talk to God, and repent. 

The thing that is decreasing Christianity the most is trends. People see others on the internet or in general who says they don't believe in Christianity because they feel as if God isn't real or another reason. You see kids becoming emo and following atheist heavy metal music bands and it's influencing them to become what they're intaking. People listen to all these songs about drugs, sex, killing, and riches, and they're feeding off of the negative energy that it gives off. It influences you to do the things you are hearing and to start to like those things. 

“People are intrinsically lethargic, which might be a characteristic leftover from our predecessors' long periods of saving energy for the following hunt”(time.com). Every day people sit around the house doing nothing and never take the time to think about God. There are stay home parents who could be practicing Christianity during their spare time. People would rather sit on the couch and watch that Sunday night football game than go to church or have a late-night bible study. People have time throughout their day where they are doing completely nothing and still don't have the time to think about their faith and relationship with the lord above. 

The church has a major decrease of Christians due to covid-19. People use covid as an excuse for not going to church. Many church services are having services on zoom or over video and people still don't take the time to join. There are videos on youtube and all over the internet that you could look at over Christianity and the churches but society rather use technology for lust, devil music, and other things. There are so many opportunities for Christians to go have Godly services and during troubled times and they still make excuses. 

The generation above us was raised by parents who forced the church upon them. Our parents have been forced to go to church so much that they don't like it now. Parents don't want to force Christianity and church on their kids because they have been there before and they know how it feels. Parents know that their kids have no interest in churches and religions so they don't care to speak or act on it. They give their children too much freedom to control their life at a young age that they make bad decisions and turn into menaces to society. I feel as if parents would open up the opportunity to Christianity and raise their kids around it but not force it upon them then they would like it and it would be on the rise. For Christianity to rise kids will have to step out of their comfort zone and worldly ways. They would have to pray, read the word, and just truly believe that Jesus is your lord and savior and that he died on the cross for our sins. If the upcoming or current generation changes then Christianity will be on the rise. 

In conclusion, Christianity is on a declining slope in the united states. Society doesn’t take their time to build a connection or follow the religion. Kids are influenced by the wrong crowd and it is affecting their spirit.  For Christianity to rise kids will have to step out of their comfort zone and worldly ways. There are becoming more Christian influencers that could grow and encourage the new generation in the United States to change their ways and turn their life into Christianity.
