The Role of US Customs and Border Protection Essay Example

I was born in the United States along with my parents and my grandparents, so personally I don't know the struggle  of trying to come over into the United States and having to deal with the government's immigration policies. That being  said, my great maternal grandmother was born in Delicias, Mexico to a wealthy family and left it all behind to come to the United states for love. Although  she came the legal way so she did not encounter the wrong side of the immigration laws. When looking at immimgration one of the things that is thought of is the way the illegal immigrants are being treated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection after being brought into their custody . Although it is often said that illegal immigrants are mistreated by the U.S government, people should realize that illegal immigrants aren’t being mistreated because the federal government provides housing, food, medical services, and transportation to their home country.

So obviously when you turn on the tv or open a social media platform there is always some type of news that is about how the border patrol/ government had denied some type of medical. are to the illegal immigrants that are in their care.Well I can prove this as completely false. “During this time, agents provided care for the 18-month-old in shifts at the Uvalde Border Patrol Station until the mother was released from the hospital.”( U.S customs and  border protection, 2019)  thingslike this are happening at all the stations around the country not just at this one in Uvalde Station.the government would never refuse someone help if that person really needs the medical attention. Although many illegal immigrants take advantage of the fact that the government is providing them medical care, the immigration try to pl  ay the system and say they have all sorts of problems medical wise so they can try to receive medical treatment to push back the time and day that they end up being deported. theU.S customs and border Protection also shares that “However, our agents are continually pulled from their enforcement duties to watch over people at hospitals, and in this case a child while her mother was receiving care.” (U.S customs and  border protection, 2019)  Agents are being pulled off from their daily duties to go back d make sure that the illegal immigrant is not alone for the reason being that they are under the custody of the border patrol for crossing over illegally but to also make sure that they do receive the appropriate care for their medical issues.

It is true the government is tuning out of space to hold immigrants that are constantly coming in large groups, although the government is trying their best to make sure that everything that is necessary for the immigrants to stay alive and comfortable it’s just having to be spread  out more and more. “"We’re overcapacity and, you know, we’re finding different ways of getting those numbers through processing, getting them housed and getting them out of our hands. ‘cause we know, you know, the next hour could bring another nine, 800 people," says Yuma Sector Border Patrol Supervisor Vincent Dulesky.”  (Yousif, 2021).Yuma sector supervisor shines a light on the fact that they are constantly getting larger groups so now that they have to spread resources very thin. and it hard to get all the immigrants  processed fast enough because they don’t have the agents to spare to put that amount of them needed to prosses theses larger groups that are coming across because it would leav avery few agents on the line ti stop the new groups that will continue to come in. the article also shows that "We’re taking any space that we have available and we’re modifying it, putting up temporary tents. Anything we can use to house these individuals. You know, we’re modifying garages or other facilities where we can just put people and hold them for now," explains Dulesky.”(Yousif, 2021) there are so many people that are coming across the border that there is nowhere to put them so the government had no choice but to start converting everything that they possibly could into holding facilities to house all these immigrants. all these facilities have air conditioning, food and water supplies and other things that are necessary for life. 

The U.S Customs and Border Protection are taking care of illegal immigrants to the best of their abilities. Still, there are many that believe that neither U.S Customs or Border Protection gives regard to immigrants and don't care what happens to them. “On Sept. 25, Border Patrol Agents from the Santa Teresa Station received a call from New Mexico State Police regarding a migrant who called 911 because he was lost and in distress, near a rescue beacon. Hours later agents were able to find the migrant in good health in a remote desert location northeast of Columbus, New Mexico.” This goes to show that the border patrol really does care about the immigrants that are coming over the border illegally. The border patrol is providing more resources for the illegal immigrants that are in the desert stranded to get help by putting up rescue beacons, this helps like illegal immigrants that are stranded in the desert notify the government that they need help. Many other legal immigrants come over her cell phones where they are able to contact 911 and dispatch contacts the border patrol to help rescue the person in distress. 

there are still many allegations against the border Patrol and sadly some of them are right.“The allegations of ill-treatment Amnesty International collected include people struck with batons, fists and feet, often as punishment for attempting to run away from Border Patrol agents; denial of food, water and blankets for many hours while detained in Border Patrol stations and at Ports of Entry for INS processing.” (Akers, 2004) Although there are some incidents where the immigrants are being mistreated it is not the case all the time. Just because there is one bad fruit does it mean the whole tree is bad. As I stated before the border patrol is trying their best to protect and provide care for you so you got immigrants that have came from tithed county’s The government is Trying their best to identify the legitimate asylum-seekers, and even the people that are sex traffickers, murderers and things like that So the  policies that are placed our place for a reason to help not protect just the United States citizens but also the immigrants that are coming across with these people

The Border patrol and customs protection are providing care for the immigrants that are constantly crossing over. The government is trying their best to make sure that everyone that is involved in this process is safe. overall the U.S cosine a and border protection do care about the people that are in their custody.
