The Importance Of Summer Break Argumentative Essay

In 2004-2005 students with a regular school calendar scored higher on standardized tests than students with year-round school schedules. Summer is time off given to students to help them decompress from the stress of school and should not be taken away. Students’ summer break should remain the same because it benefits students and teachers’ health, opens opportunities for future careers, and expands the ability to seize important life skills not taught in school.

To begin, Summer should remain the same because it is beneficial for students’ and teachers’ health. In source B it states, ¨when school ended two weeks ago I noticed my kids seemed almost instantly healthier and more engaged with what was going on. less weary¨ Students are benefiting not only mentally but as well as physically. 

Furthermore, summer can open up new opportunities for future careers as well as help grasp important life skills. Lacy, who just graduated from high school stated, ¨But this job opened up a more vivid pathway for me. I saw I could do more than just earn income, I could also gain experience and job readiness for the real world.¨(source e) Being able to experience being an employer of a company is way more beneficial than just learning how to be one in school. These job programs help students make some connections...to explore a lot of things they can’t do in school. School can not teach you everything you need to know about the real world. It is through experiencing things like job programs, and real job opportunities that help prepare us with skills for our future careers. 

Some may argue that students may forget everything they have learned over summer break. But year-round schools show no benefit and the test scores don't even reach above 700 like the traditional students. 

Summer break is an outlet for students to fully express themselves while grasping new life skills and to take time away from the uptight feeling of school work.
