When bored, I like to immerse myself in whatever subject is currently piquing my interest. Sometimes, that means I'm glued to my computer for two hours watching a documentary on the French Revolution. Other times, I might blow the dust off of my physical science textbook from my freshman year and read up on the composition of the earth's atmosphere. More recently, I've been studying the political structure of the United States and the physics of ballet. I find joy in learning. That much said, my ultimate desire for the next four years (and for the rest of my life really) is to broaden my perspective, my understanding, and my vault of knowledge on as many subjects as I can for the purpose of understanding myself, others, society as a whole, and the world around me. I believe that the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts will support me in my quest for understanding and offer me opportunities to experience new curiosities.

It was the extensive list of majors and minors that first sprouted my interest in LSA. From there, I went on a deep dive (as I do) into the specifics of the college and the unique opportunities it offers. The Theme Semesters were the first to grab my attention. A community wide study of a topic met with immersion and collaboration from others is my ideal "learning environment." Having attended a small school, a small dance studio, and a small youth group, I've learned two things. 1) I love close communities 2) I want more opportunities for them! Going to a large campus with innumerable close-knit communities is the perfect intersection of these. If admitted I look forward to small class sizes, honors and other scholar programs, and dance clubs. Similar to the wide variety of majors, LSA's 3000 courses are nothing short of overwhelming, yet thrilling. The option to broaden my horizons in just about any subject I want without having to declare a major until the end of sophomore year is the ideal set up for me. I want to learn the basics of neuroscience, Judaism, human genetics, the contributions of black women in pop culture, and how to write code. Hopefully, I'll be able to study them all.

LSA at UMICH has everything I'm looking for: A large campus with small intertwined communities, educational and cultural immersion, and endless choices. If admitted to UMICH, I truly believe I'll thrive in a community of learners who share the same goal as me.
