In the recent years artists have been exploding in popularity because of advertisements endorsing their music. Companies like Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, and many more have been putting artists in their upcoming advertisements for benefits in both ends. Advertising artists music with commercials is a superior idea, that can help in the new development of the music industry. Although the use of artists' music in commercials can result in their selling out, if done sustainably, it can aid in earning revenue for artists and get their names out in a competitive marketplace.

Advertising music in commercials is a good idea for artists and bands because they help earn money for themselves, to invest into their career . According to the author "Stacia Coates", "A corporation paying for these costs can make the difference between artists growing their careers, or completely giving up on the music business all together (Coates par.13)." Whenever a artist or band is not able to meet the margin they need to sustain to stay in business, they cant earn a suitable income for themselves. This causes most of them to give up on the business. However, with the help of companies making endorsements and advertisements for them, they  go above that margin and exceed expectations for them as a artist or band. According to the text, "The New Necessity in the Music Business", "And while the sums of these deals are not disclosed, a band can earn anywhere from $10,000 to $150,000-plenty of money for equipment, touring, and living expenses (Coates par.13). With a higher salary budget, artists and bands can make higher quality music for their audience. Along with improvements in their music, they can experience life without struggling to make the cut just to be accepted in the community. Without funds, it is more difficult to succeed in this hard path.

Advertising music in commercials is a good idea for artists to get their names out to people like would enjoy their music to grow their platform. The text states," Artists must develop an image that appeals to their fans in order to remain unique and authentic, or they risk striking the wrong chord, which could leave them struggling to sustain careers in this new business landscape (Johnson par.5)."For artists, reputations and popularity are big controlling factor, of their success. Without their names being out in atmosphere, they start to see downward trends in their music sales and success. Although it is hard to become famous overnight, it would be more easier with an endorsement or commercial to guide artists and bands. With big changes in the music industry, staying in the business could be hard; "With so much hype about how difficult it is to make it in the music business these days, it’s understandable why artists would turn to large corporations to help bring them a bigger audience and, most importantly, a bigger paycheck (Johnson par.6)." When artists lean to other corporations to get their name out, they feel ashamed because they feel like they are not good enough to do it themselves. However, it doesn’t really show that. It shows that you know how to appropriately handle a situation, when you are struggling to become a successful artist.

Although advertising music in commercials is a beneficial idea, some may say otherwise. For instance, that it ruins their idea for music. In the first source the text states "A band can make hundreds of thousands of dollars by agreeing to promote a product or license its music for use in advertisements, but there are many ways that this can backfire. Alex Scally, instrumentalist for the indie-pop duo Beach House, notes that when bands take on corporate sponsors they may lose the image they have worked to create (Carter par.4)." To further explain, when a Rockstar band wants to make a name for themselves, they might play in commercial for a kids toy. This is a unethical idea, that shows their fans that they are being shallow for money and not playing from their general idea of music, that they like. With those factors it looks like branding your music might not be in the cards, but it is able to be used in a good way with determination and the right opportunity; "Some bands have thoroughly embraced branding and see it more as an opportunity than a necessity. For example, the massively successful pop group, the Black Eyed Peas, focuses on exposure before a paycheck (Carter par.6)." Branding is a tricky situation for most new artists. Even if branding means ruining an artists so called "general idea of music", it is a big decision for many to start embracing, for its many boosts that it gives. This makes music more spreadable and enjoyable to all of the community.

In conclusion, Advertising music with commercials is a good idea for artist and bands. With this new perspective in your mind, think about how much artists need to do without endorsements compared to with endorsements. In the future, the next time there is a singer on a big companies ad, think about the benefits of their choice.
