Do you enjoy spending time playing video games? Maybe you like minecraft or fortnite or other games, well

Games can actually be good for you. Lots of amazing benefits can come from these games, that maybe your parents don’t like you playing. Creativity can be sparked in a game of minecraft, and problem solving and leadership in fortnite. These are used to your benefit, while you are relaxing and enjoying a game.

Firstly, video games give children an opportunity to be creative. When playing video games you are involved in a game and are able to use your creativity to do creative things. Such creative games are minecraft, roblox, simcity, the sims and more. Something you can find in common between the games is the ability to use your imagination and creativity, and creativity is essential for children. An article on a study  published in the Creativity Research Journal, states, “In the experimental study published in the Creativity Research Journal, the researchers analysed 352 participants. They compared the effects of playing Minecraft, with or without instruction, to watching a TV show or playing a race car video game.” This study when completed did show that video games induce creativity, some games less with instructions some more without. In the article, it also states, “Most video games encourage players to practice some level of creativity. For example, players may create a character and story for role-playing games or be rewarded for creative strategies in competitive games, said researchers.”This proves that video games give children an opportunity to be creative.

Secondly, video games help teach children to problem solve. There are many way that video games teach children to problem solve such as learning from mistakes. In an article on “Screeninvasion” it states, “Of course, video games are great for helping you learn from a mistake. With a video game, when you make a mistake, you often realize it immediately. If you tried to jump from a cliff and you couldn’t reach the other side, you learn to understand what distances are too long for those jumps. You constantly analyse your behavior in the game – you learn to adjust your approach as you go along.” (Staff, ScreenInvasion.) This is true, and very crucial for real life. If you don't learn from your mistakes in real life, that can be bad for times, and video games can help develop this skill.

One of the reasons people might say that video games should be banned for children is because some video games can be violent, which therefore they claim must mean that it will turn children violent themselves. This can be true in some cases, but in many cases it is not. In a study conducted by  Oxford Internet institute and the University of Oxford, it was shown that violent video games and aggression had no connection between each other. In the article, it states, “That is because this study used a combination of subjective and objective data to measure teen aggression and violence in games. Compared to previous research on the subject, which relied on self-reported data from teenagers, this study used information from parents and carers to judge the level of aggressive behavior in their children.” and, “If you're curious about the sampling here, as you should be, then it comprised of British 14 to 15-year olds and an equal number of parents or carers, totaling 2,008 subjects in all.

The result of this thorough approach showed that there was no link between violent video games and teenage aggression, something that the lead researcher Professor Andrew Przybylski went on to clarify.” (Barder, Ollie.)   This shows that the argument that video games make children violent is not true, and this is not the only study that found the argument false.

In conclusion, When you want to be entertained and go on your device to play a video game, remember that it has benefits that are crucial to have in real life. Some benefits are creativity and problem solving skills that Video games can increase. Therefore, go on, and play your favorite game but not for too long, of course, if you don’t want the negative effects of it to come onto you.
