The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century (Nasa). Climate change is on the rise as the world gets hotter by every coming year as many countries can’t reduce their global carbon dioxide emissions. These changes in climate can create devastating effects that can end the world as er know it. The one thing that can prevent this is the Paris climate agreement. The Paris Agreement is a legally enforceable international climate change accord. It was accepted by 196 Countries at COP 21 in Paris on December 12, 2015, and went into effect on November 4, 2016 (United Nations). Nations who wish to see a better world, must join this agreement as it can reduce global warming, create around 24 million future jobs, reduces the mortality to air pollution, and decrease natural disasters. These reason help illustrate the importance of the Paris climate agreement on our world, economies, and future.

A common frustration against the Paris climate agreement is that it is not enough to stop climate change. Its limitations can’t be undermined; current approaches might result in a 2.7°C (4.9°F) temperature increase by 2100 (climateactiontracker). People are not mistaken that the Paris agreement is not enough; but having this agreement gives us the basic road map to implement further acts to reduce climate change. The agreement encourages leaders of many nations to set pioneering goals to limit their production of greenhouse gasses. It further obligates developed countries to support and help developing countries to reduce their harmful emissions (Key aspects of the Paris Agreement). These are significant because without the Paris climate agreement, the future impact of climate change would be much worse. According to the most recent predictions, global temperature would rise by 2.5 °C to 4.5 °C (4.5 °F to 8 °F) by 2100 unless significant action is taken to cut emissions (NASA). Leonardo DiCaprio voiced his support for the Paris agreement by stating “Today, our planet suffered. It’s more important than ever to take action. #ParisAgreement”, Which was in response to the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris agreement. The Paris agreement therefor has a positive side effect on climate change that can be worked on with more approaches. These positive effects also effect is the increase in future occupations.

The Paris climate agreement will be one of the main causes for increase in jobs. Taking action in the energy industry to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century might result in the creation of around 24 million jobs by 2030 (Montt). This is significant because it manifests the importance of the Paris climate agreement towards the economy and higher employment. Although the Paris climate agreement will unavoidably result in employment losses in certain areas such as fossil fuel sectors, these losses will be more than compensated by new job possibilities. Job losses due to transitioning to a greener economy can lose upwards of 6 million occupations (Montt). These losses in jobs are significant, but not towards the increase of 24 million jobs globally. This will give us a net job increase of 18 million jobs which will be significant to our future. One thing that will decrease is the death rate caused by air pollution.
