Corruption in Animal Farm Essay Example

Texts Provide an understanding of views of various issues and ideas in our society that have an impact on us. George Orwell’s “Animal Farm '' chose to use the genres of fairy story, fable and Allegory to write his satire the “Animal Farm '', which clearly reflects the dominant theme of the abuse of power and dictatorship during the Russian revolution which is the core aspect of my essay. 

The corruption by people in our society which is present in some aspects of our society is clearly explained through the character of Napoleon in the book. For example,George Orwell explored the idea that power corrupts. Many characters in the novel end up rotting because of their power as they manipulate leadership positions to exploit other animals. Example:”The pig’s takes over and begins to control other animals' ', “Napoleon uses Squealer and the dogs to stop the animals’ question about the windmill”. Napoleon also abuses his power by using Boxer’s kindness and loyalty to abuse his power. Napoleon uses Squealer to maintain a dictatorship through publicity and horror.  Squealer takes advantage of his lack of knowledge to brainwash other animals, also Napoleon uses dictatorship to command other animals, use accuracy, and impose severe punishments that block his path. George Orwell portrays Napoleon as Stalin in many similar ways,because, after the revolution, manages food supply and maintains animal support. He takes the puppy away, drives Snowball out of the farm, and shows the range of power for the first time. He does not participate in the barn battle, but later rewrites his history to portray himself as a heroic leader. Napoleon uses cruelty in several places including in treatment in Boxer. As the story progresses, it becomes more selfish-or at least not very interested in hiding his self-interest. By the end of the story, he almost completely replaced Mr Jones- although he’s worse off by betraying the revolution and farm animals, e.g Squealer changes and distorts and the seven commandments ``All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, also you see that Napoleon halves the ration of animals that do not work extra time on the windmill. Napoleon’s rations are already so low that it makes it harder and starve. Napoleon fears Boxer because everyone loves him and respects him so he decided to sell boxer to horse slaughter to buy himself a whisky, and tells squealer to tell animals that Boxer was injured, and they are taking him to hospital, but Benjamin a donkey who was educated tells animals that they are taking boxer to horse slaughter. Another time when Napoleon shows his cruelty is when an ignorant chicken on an animal farm. They initially fully embraced the rebellion and ideals of the animal farm, but when Napoleon insisted that hens have to give up their eggs, hens were a little frightened. The chicken rebellion fails, killing nine chickens in the course of five day resistance, three chickes who were masterminds of the attempted egg rebellion, have now come forward and said that Snowballs appeared to them in a dream and instigated them not to obey Napolean’s order, they were also slaughtered, also Napoleon breaks seven commandments by trading with neighbouring farms, Mr Pilkington, he also sleeps in bed, also drink alcohol , he also bannes books, so animals could not get educated, and he made rule with Squealer that no animal shall read, so they could not get educated, so they could not betray and rebel against Napoleon. 

George Orwell uses  many language techniques to describe the way animals work in Animal Farm, and he also explains how Napoleon's corruption, greed and dictatorship is evident in the farm.For examples imagery, is used to describe how  squealer whisking his tail and laughing shows that he is happy and that his tactics are good in chapter 5 page 58. The animals, seeing Squealer whisking his tail, would make them think that nothing is wrong and that he is telling the truth. 

George Orwell frequently uses premonition as a commonly used literary device that suggests the future potential of the story, e.g include Napolean will execute other animals is foreshadowed by is in chapter 1, when old major says “young fattening pigs sitting in front of me, each will shout your life in a block within a year.” It is foreseen when a fattening pig was killed by Mr Jones in the butcher’s “block” was killed in Napoleon's “block” at the beheast of Napolean. Using the example of Mr Jones' cruelty in predicting Napolean , the novella claims that the two regimes, humans and pigs, are essentially the same.
