English 102 Course Analysis Essay Example
While talking English 102 I have learned a lot. English 102 helped writing skills
development through logical organization, effective style, literary analysis, and research There is also an introduction to the literary genre. English 102 was a little bit challenging to me but with the feedback from my classmates and professor English 102 became more fun to learn and easier to understand.
Understanding the rhetorical and literary elements and genre conventions was fun for me. I learned new things throughout reading. One of the discussions was focusing on the genre. Genre is understanding how language becomes meaningful in context, which leads to the concept of genre. Essentially, it is a tool that assists us in using language by categorizing or categorizing it. The lesson we had to discuss was about comparing and contrasting genres, for example comedy movies and romantic movies. With genres there are elements which are the Audience,purpose,Context,Ethos etc. Rhetoric is the analytical study of communication known as rhetoric. Print, digital, visual, and occasionally audio documents and texts are common forms of communication in composition. In discussion four we had to listen to a podcast called “Serial”, Serial was about a high school boyfriend being accused of killing his girlfriend. During the discussion we had to choose one of the rhetorical elements to analyze the podcast. For example the audience in the podcast “serial” caught my attention.Consider the rhetorical situation to gain a more in-depth understanding of others and their texts. In short, the rhetorical situation can help writers and readers consider and determine why texts exist, what they aim to accomplish, and how they accomplish it in specific situations.
Writing an essay was always difficult for me. In english 102. My first Major Writing Assignment was based on a podcast we could pick to review. Discussion 7 I typed an introduction paragraph on the podcast I chose which was “Black Girls Heal” by Shena Lashey. In discussion 7 I received feedback from my classmate and professor which helped me improve my introduction paragraph. In discussion 8 I had to upload my major writing assignment. I received feedback from my classmate which he mentioned I did very well on my essay. For all the major writing assignments I had to complete with the help from my classmates and professor I gained a lot of confidence when it came down to me having to write an essay. Proofreading is important when writing a essay because I want to make sure everything is correct before turning it in. Proofreading was a major issue of mine until I realized it is a good thing to do. For example, a misspelled word could be the reason no points were gained.
While doing research I can’t just always pick a source I see.Some sources online aren’t always good sources for example blogs,wikipedia,local newspapers etc are examples of bad sources for research because people can add and delete information meaning if I use wikipedia I could be putting false information into my assignment. Some good sources to use for research are peer reviewed journals, professional organizations and google scholar. In major assignment 2 and 3 I had to provide sources to get approved by my professor, This taught me to read through a source to see if it is reliable and check for important information on the source. A credible source is one that offers a thorough, well-reasoned theory, argument, or discussion based on solid evidence. I can tell a source is not reliable by looking at the link. Majority of the links that do not have “edu or gov” are not reliable sources.
Technology is a major tool when it comes down to writing and research projects. Technology is used for writing by using different formmats for example “Google docs” I use google docs for everything because they have different formmats already formatted like “MLA format” all I have to do is change the information I need and start typing my paper. Google docs also automatically saves every word I type so I wouldn’t have to worry about if my work won’t be saved.Techbology is also used for research because you have to be cautious on what websites you use. One of my assignments was to create a infographic which is a visual representation of information. Some links were given to us for example Canva, Easel.ly, Piktochart those links are good websites if you need to create an infographic.
