Honors English 9 Course Review

I have successfully been on an honor roll every year of middle school.  I would love to be in Honors English 9.  To begin, I have maintained good grades in English throughout middle school.  Not only, have I completed all of my assignments and homework on time, but also I  am very passionate about writing and reading.  At the same time, I have great studying skills and habits which would give me an advantage in Honors English, and Honors English 9 can lead me to a better path in the future.  I am excited about the challenges Honors English 9 brings.

To begin, I have continued to strive and succeed in reaching my goals on report cards and annual tests.  There is one thing I am passionate about and that is school and in more detail, I strive to get good grades.  I have had straight A’s in every class for the past 2 and a half years that I have attended middle school.  I  have continued to move in a path of work and determination. Getting straight A’s is not an essay process, but it is what I enjoy the most so I continue to do so.  Next, looking at my SOLs that I have taken for English I set a goal of passing the SOL test and I have succeeded. I have passed every Sol I have ever taken which included the reading Sol.  Although Sol can be nerve-racking I do not necessarily view them as a test inside I look at them as a way to track my progress and growth through the years, which has helped me tremendously.  Finally, my scores on my most recent MAP test was in the 61 percentile.  I am looking forward to improving my score on our upcoming map test. My grades have shown me that I am prepared to take Honors English 9 next year and that I will continue to get good grades in high school.  I believe I can continue my streak of good academics in high school.

Second, I submit all of my assignments on time and honor the due date that is given to me. I keep an agenda with me at all times and write down all of my assignments so that I don't forget to do them.  With different classes and different assignments using my agenda has helped me tremendously.  I am still human and occasionally might miss one or two assignments because I may have forgotten to write them down but then I do them and make sure to email or talk to my teacher about it.  However, most of the time I have all my assignments turned in by the due date. Also,  along with turning in my assignments on time, I make sure that I have completed my assignment to the best of my ability before submitting it.  Sometimes due dates can be intimidating which Is why I complete my assignments a couple of days before the due date.  Then on the due date, I go back and make sure that what I am turning in is what I want to turn in and then I submit my assignments.  Due dates are one thing that I obey because if I ever have a missing assignment It is the only thing I  can think about until I complete that assignment.  Lastly,  I know that due dates will be stricter in highschool but I am fully prepared to turn in my work on time.  However,  I don't think that will be a challenge because I am already turning in all my assignments on time in middle school so I will do the same in high school.  I am looking forward to what the next four years have to offer and I am up for the challenge and work that Honors English 9 has to offer.

Next, I admire reading and writing very much. To begin,  reading is almost an escape from relating for me.  If I find a great book that I enjoy reading it can be very hard to get that book out of my hand.  I am definitely willing to read more books next year.   I am currently reading 2-3 books a quarter so  3-4 a semester should be too difficult for me.  To continue,  both reading and writing are concepts that I will be using for the rest of my life no matter what field I go into. This is why I want to have a strong base for both topics. Honors English 9 will do just that it will help me be one step closer to improving my reading and writing skills to my full potential.  To be one step ahead will give me a clear view of what I will be up against in the years to come.  Writing is something that I love to do.  I often find myself spending hours on an essay to make sure it's perfect.  To do so I pay attention to every detail and fix sentences that don't make sense.  Sometimes I have to re-read my essay twenty times to make sure that it is one hundred percent what I want to submit.  Paying attention to details is something I am always doing whether it is in my writing or the world around me.  English is one of my favorite classes and I would be ecstatic to continue into high school with Honors English 9 in my schedule. 

My studying habits and skills will lead me to accomplish Honors English 9.  I have a lot of time on my hands to spend when school is over.  After my one-hour sport session, I have the rest of the day to spend studying.  I am willing to spend as much time as I need on homework and assignments that this class would need. Also, during my last years of elementary school and the first year of middle school, I have obtained a list of apps and resources that have helped me study and stay focussed on school work.  These include Quizlet, flashcards, and write down notes through a class lesson.  These study tips have helped me get my work done and learn the most out of my classes.  These study tips also helped me achieve Pass Proficient on my recent MAP test which I scored in the 61 percentile.  Looking at my score and the upcoming SOL and MAP test I plan on using my studying habits to achieve an even better score on the tests. To continue, studying can be difficult at times but my working habits have taught me how to make studying a bit simpler.  One thing my study habits have taught me is that if I spend 3-4 hours on one subject for homework  I have to put in the same amount of effort for all of the different assignments. What I mean by this is that if I get tired and start to see that I am not putting in my best effort on an assignment, then I will take a quick break and come back to the assignment.  This ensures that I have put in my best effort for any assignment for any class.  My study habits are one of my strongest skills which will lead me to do great things in the future.

Lastly, looking toward the future if I take Honors English 9 it will set me forward for the rest of my high school year and beyond.  Although I am still in middle school there is one thing I know for sure I would like to accomplish in high school and that is getting the most out of my high school years. What I mean by that is that I want to take as many classes as I can handle in high school to set me up for college and a successful life.  Hower at the same time I would balance that out with some breaks as needed after school and some easier classes.  Balance is important when it comes to making my decision for classes next year. Although I have not 100% chosen my classes for next year I know that I would love to take Honors English 9; along with some other advanced classes.  However, also some easy classes to balance out my day. On the contrary,  I am up for the challenge that any class brings.  Honors English 9 is a great way to introduce topics I already have and elaborate on them. If I take Honors English 9 it will help improve on skills I already have like study habits and vocabulary and many more.  In every subject, not just English there is always more to learn.  I know that if I take Academic English 9 I will still be able to learn. However, I truly believe that it would be more beneficial for me to take Honors English 9 because I have the foundation of things we will be learning in Honors English 9 and if I take the more advanced class I will have a better understanding of the material we will be learning in years to come. Following, because English is something that I will be using for the rest of my life, I would rather have an earlier start on some harder topics to better prepare for the future.  To further explain, it is easier to go into something prepared than to go into something blindly. Overall, I truly believe that this class would better prepare me for the future and I'm truly ready for all challenges that come with Honors English 9.

Choosing classes for ninth grade can be challenging but, looking more in depth at my work ethic in the past years I think that Honors English 9 is something that I can accomplish in the near future. I have achieved straight A’s, get all of my work done on time, love to read and write, have great siding habits, and Honors English 9 will help me in the future. I believe that these characteristics can set me in achieving Honors English 9.  Overall I hope that Honors English 9 will be something that I will get to experience and enjoy soon.
