Essay about Nuclear Energy

These days, the explosive growth of population has led to an increasing demand for fuel consumption, hence a pressing need for alternative energy sources to tackle the energy crisis. Some argue that there are few forms of energy that can prove more effective than nuclear one in such mission. I agree with this solution up to a point, but there should be some limits.

First and foremost, regarding the environmental and long-term effects, thermonuclear energy outweighs other prevalent energy sources. For example, generating electricity through nuclear fission in nuclear power plants reduces the emission of carbon dioxide, which is a by-product of chemical burning that is under use in other energy production. What’s more, natural energy sources are in fact mainly intermittent, whether they are renewable or non-renewable. Take solar panels and wind turbines as examples, they must depend on the availability of the energy sources, which are sunlight and wind, and cannot continuously generate electricity. Vice versa, fusion plants could operate all day unless human beings became extinct. 

Having said that, it is undeniable that the advancement of nuclear energy is a mixed blessing. Supposing fission power plants are opened uncontrollably, it will pose an environmental hazard that is hard to avert. Therefore, government should impose both strict policies on power plant construction and exemplary sanctions on individuals and parties violating the laws. Moreover, operating such energy-producing stations is highly risky. Accidents such as uranium leakage in Chernobyl and Japan are always there to be lessons for every country when taking the installment of these stations into account, which requires thoughtful decisions from the governors. 

In conclusion, I believe that atomic power is the our next promising energy resources for the future thanks to many of its advantages, only if it is properly produced and consumed.
