For many students at our school, procrastination is a big problem. Social media apps such as Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, Telegram, Reddit, Snapchat, and Discord are one of the many distractions that students face nowadays. These social media apps prevent students from completing their tasks. For example, when a student returns home after a long day of learning, they change their uniform and eat dinner before turning on their computers to do their work. However, as soon as they turn on their computer, they are bombarded with notifications from social media apps, which causes them to become distracted and procrastinate. Before they know it, it has been 6 hours and they only have 2 hours to complete their work. This gives the student no choice but to plagiarize someone else's work from the internet. This is like a double-edged sword: either the student gets caught or they get a good grade but won’t learn anything.

People procrastinate for many reasons. Here are the most common reasons in my opinion.

Perfectionism: perfectionism can cause procrastination. Most people are scared of making mistakes and scared of being scared of not doing something perfectly. For example, some of my classmates want to get a perfect score in PT but are afraid to turn it in because they want everything to be perfect. As a result, they end up turning it in late because they forgot to finish it because they want everything to be perfect. Another reason why people procrastinate is that feeling overwhelmed: some people are overwhelmed by the task they have to complete. They're afraid they won't be able to finish it, so they put it off to the side and say that they will do it when they feel better. or they try to finish it but give up.

Personally, I think that social media apps are helpful because they allow for easy communication, which allows introverted or socially anxious students to collaborate in a safe environment, strengthen their relationships, form new connections, and find social support during difficult times. One study found that Social media makes 81% of teens from 13-17-year-olds feel more connected to the people in their lives, while 68% believe it makes them feel supported during difficult times. Students can also use social media to organize programs to help other students perform better in school and improve their grades. According to one study, More than half of students use social media as a platform to discuss schoolwork. From personal experience, I can say that social media is really helpful and important for both my school and social life. But social media also has many negatives. Social media is really addicting. You can easily lose track of time and accidentally spend 6 hours watching a video or browsing the internet on some random topic.

As a procrastinator myself I can say that it’s hard not to procrastinate but I do have some tips I want to share with you. It will help boost your productivity and performance. According to Parkinson's law “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion” Parkinson’s Law is a principle that states that the time required to perform a task tends to extend to all the time available to perform it this means that if you have 3 hours to perform a task, such as writing a letter, you will take your time. You'll get up in the morning, shower, eat breakfast, and find a place to write the letter, as well as the perfect piece of paper and pencil to use, but you'll only have 3 minutes to complete it. You'll simply wake up, skip the shower and breakfast, grab a piece of paper and a pencil, and begin writing the letter. Some of us work better under pressure. So you don’t have to plan out with you are going to do on some task. Some people prefer the adrenaline rush and intense focus that comes with a close deadline might choose to start later.

However, If you're procrastinating and losing face, here are some things that help you stop procrastinating and get more work done in less time. Avoid using social media. Focus on the task at hand and give yourself less time to complete it. For example, if you have two hours to complete a task, give yourself one hour to complete it. It doesn't have to be perfect. after spend the other hour polishing it up, correcting any grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors, and generally improving the work. You can also ask for the help of others. For example, if you have siblings, tell them to take your phone away and only return it once you've completed your task. Remove as many distractions as possible by setting up a firewall to block social media sites that may divert your attention away from the activity at hand. During the process, reward yourself and take short breaks, and most importantly, work your way from the most difficult to the easiest tasks. If you start with the easiest task, the work will only get harder as you progress, but if you start with the hardest and end with the easiest task, the work will only get easier as you progress.
