Exploratory Essay: Why Cell Phones Should Not Be Banned In Public Places

“It might seem like the most unlikely of heroes, but it turns out that the mobile cell phone has saved the day on more than one occasion.” Most teenagers become kidnapped in public areas with the help of cell phones, they can call or activate Emergency SOS. The usage of cell phones has saved 125,000 US lives each year. Some people believe that phones should not be allowed in public places. However, phones should be permitted everywhere considering they save lives and people need to communicate with family.

One may say that phones are not suitable because they can be distracting. In movie theatres, phones can be annoying considering they’re bright and loud. This claim is invalid because phones save lives, and that is most important. It is understood that cell phones can be annoying and loud. But, they help with many events. Every day, people become kidnapped or seriously injured. When people become hurt or need service, they almost always contact 911 or trigger Emergency SOS. Without carrying cell phones, one would not have the capability to save themselves or others. One can silence their cell phone, and turn the screen brightness down when needed, so banning cell phones in public places is unnecessary.

In addition to cell phones saving lives, cell phones are needed for communication. Communication is important, especially with family. Teenagers go out with their friends, and parents love to keep in touch. If one's child does not respond, one could be worried, frightened, or angry. Also, a person's family may live in varying countries. It is significant to keep in touch with family and update them when events are happening. Especially, when there is an emergency.
Phones need to be allowed in public spaces because they save lives, and are needed for communication. If cell phones are permitted in general places, then millions of lives could be saved, kids could be safe, and families can communicate.
