In my opinion, Mental Health is an issue that needs to change or else it’ll lead to negative consequences. It’s something not so many people discuss, and it’s kept behind closed doors in front of children. Their parents don’t want them to know about it unless it fully concerns them. They don’t talk about it, even though they already know about racism from History class, murderers from the news, and so many other things. Except for mental health. They don’t put so much value onto mental health, so many people are bullied, school life stresses them out, and rascism is also a huge negative impact towards them.

A lot of people have been bullied, in the past or even currently. Bullying is like a huge game people don’t notice that they’re even playing. People cover up bullying by saying “oh they’re just joking”, “it’s nothing really” and covering up how they feel by saying those phrases. It can really mess up your self-confidence and how you see yourself, and it also takes a lot of time to recover from it when you’ve experienced it for so many years. Sometimes “friends” can do the same thing, but it’s even worse when that happens. If you consider them your friend it can make you even more blinded by the bullying. Friends can also help you recover from bullying, but it takes a lot of effort and time if you rely on your friends solely, because the one person who can make you fully recover from bullying is yourself.

Something else that can concern mental health is school life. School can bring up a lot of stress, and anxiety. Sometimes the students don’t think the teacher understands what’s going on for them. They end up having so much stress that they start to not care, or even lose motivation to work on anything. From personal experience, at some point, I ended up losing motivation to do anything because of all the stress and work I was experiencing all at once. It felt like a huge punch in the face and I couldn’t get up from it. In a few people’s cases, their family also plays a negative role in school life. I say this because sometimes family life can be just as stressful, and putting those two together can create a lot of chaos, depression, and anxiety.

I think that people also play a big role in mental health. My reason why is because so many people cause a lot of hate and racism towards others. The words they also use aren’t even insults anymore they’re just criticizing people’s culture, how they dress and use stereotypes against them. This starts to get to a point where people are scared to go outside, or even do the simplest things like grocery shopping. Some major examples that are happening now are Asian Hate and Black Lives Matter. This is just the surface of the situation too.

Overall, mental health is something that should have just as much attention as the following examples, bullying, friendships, family, and people are things that can affect someone’s mental health. Sometimes it also comes in without warning and in my opinion, sometimes it’s tough to handle. This is why I think mental health should be adresssed more. This matters to me because when I got into middle school my mental health was wrecked completely and I hadn’t noticed it for 2 years because nobody would talk about it. I don’t want people to suffer like that because others won’t bring attention towards the importance of mental health.
