There are many Australians who are kind, inspiring role models, but I believe Jessica Mauboy is one of the best. So, what makes Jessica different from the rest? Jessica Mauboy is a motivating and enthusing Australian for many reasons. From the touching messages she portrays through her music and her appearances in featuring in Indigenous movies, to her outstanding work she’s done for her community. It's clear that to be a real hero, you must be confident, strong minded, persistent, and helpful to others. It's obvious that she has used her success to benefit the youth, and overall community of Australia, and I'm going to explain why.

As a singer, song writer and lyricist, Jessica has produced tons of music during her career. Majority of which have won awards. Every single one of her songs has a significant meaning or a message portrayed through the lyrics. She explains that when she is creating music, it all just comes instinctively; “When I get into the studio, it's not about trying to get a good song, it's about whatever comes naturally.” She states.  Her music has won 40 awards from 108 nominations alone. Impressive right? She then went on to win Australian Idol, as she was honoured for her achievements throughout her career. She inspires the youth of Australia by showing them that anything is achievable if they put in the work.

Jessica has also featured in quite a handful of movies. The most well-known one, ‘The Sapphires’, in which she played one of the main roles. The movie is about four Yorta Yorta Indigenous Australian women, Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens, Miranda Tapsell, and Jessica herself. Who are then discovered by a talent scout and form a music group named ‘The Sapphires’. An important element of ‘The Sapphires’ is the removal of Kay (a character in the movie) and the impact this has on her connection to her family and it's shared history, which helps the viewers to understand more about the personal experiences of the Indigenous people who were removed from their families. Relating back to Jessica’s culture. By Jessica featuring in this well-known and successful movie, it is spreading awareness.

Mauboy is a very kind, loving and giving person. The community work that she has done over the years proves that perfectly. Jessica leant her voice to the campaign calling for reform and recognition to indigenous people, as set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The 2017 statement for three key reforms – constitutional change, legislative change, and the process of truth telling. In April 2009, two dollars from the sale of each of the nail polish bottles Jessica created with Bloom cosmetics donated to Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia to support the research into illnesses in children.

Is there anything Jessica can’t do? She can sing, perform, write music, play footy and give back to her community! She puts so much time and effort into helping others, before herself. All of these reasons strongly suggest that Jessica is more than worthy to receive . Don’t you think?
