Opinion Essay: Reflection On Animal Testing (Dogs)

You’re at home with the new pet that you just adopted, and many people feel bad for all the other animals that are in the animal shelter. And you wonder what will happen to all the other animals that are still there. Well, most animals that don’t get adopted are then sent to facilities to be used for experimental testing. For medicine and drugs, if they are healthy, they can be adopted, but if not, they are killed and that is cruel. So if you can go and adopt one or you can use your voice to stop all testing.

One reason, in (Testing on Dogs) many of our beloved pets get tested dogs and cats. They get tested in all different kinds of facilities in different places. After they are done, some of them get killed. Some places where animals are tested are Charles River Laboratories. Just in 2020, over 8,000 animals have been tested. And after research, they are typically killed because it is not safe to give someone a dog that is not healthy. Some reason why scientists have to kill the animals is to go and look at their organs to see if any damage was done.

In fact, in (Why Do Scientists Use Dogs in Research), these animals also live a sad life because they are stuck in this room with no other animals. When they are getting tested they are mostly forced into eating things they don’t want to because they sense that something is wrong with their food. Another way they get dogs to get to eat the food is by force-feeding them. Also by putting a chemical in the air and they breathe in.

I can see why scientists want to experiment on some animals because they have the closest cells to ours, and also to see if the tests are safe for us. But they also see how animals will react to the medicine or drug.  However, some people when they are on the verge of death would volunteer themselves to be tested to see if that can help them live. Although we think animal cells are the closest, they are not because lots of scientists have to put the virus in them because they can not catch it on their own. And the saddest news is that over 100 million animals have been killed for tests because they have gone wrong, or they have to kill to see what happened.

This topic matters so much because over 100 million animals have been killed for this. And that is not right just for testing when we already have so many things that can cure people today. So if you are on the verge of dying or suffering from sickness then maybe you can volunteer yourself to be tested because it might work.
