Persuasive Essay Example: Students Should Be Allowed to Wear What They Want

Good morning 8N today I will be discussing the matter of how schools should let students wear what they want on informal occasions. This is due to the fact that I agree on their being some sort of formal dress code at an event with important people. Surely we should still respect the formal dress code at certain events?

Firstly I would like to point out that it would allow  many students to express themselves within different styles in their clothes, hairstyles and general looks about them. Letting them wear what they want  would combat not only the problem of a lot of students wanting out of uniform but would help out the parents with them not having to pay for the extraordinary fees for  all the school uniforms; this would lift numerous  financial burdens that some parents may be facing.

It will teach students to adapt to the social standards of society if they choose their own clothes everyday as it will make them make sure they look presentable even if they don't look like everyone else. It will further teach them how to make their own choices in life  by letting them decide if they want to wear a tracksuit or a T shirt. Many students will also agree that the uniforms in a lot of schools are not of the comfortable category. There will of course be a restriction to certain clothing that may be to revealing clothing such as tank tops.

The use of uniforms does not improve the quality of your academic performance and as I am part of a very academic school I would think that this would be very important. It would take more stress off of the students as it would mean that they wouldn't have to worry if they have a certain uniform for sport or a cultural activity as they  could just wear the clothes that they have.

Not using uniforms would also reduce the amount of rebellion wanting to happen as many students would not feel the need to rebel from the uniform as it would no longer be there.A fact and known statistic to show that not many people like uniforms and would rebel is that 90 percent of the students don't enjoy wearing uniforms. In my opinion neither do I. 

Some people say that it will solve many bullying issues with uniforms as it bridges the gap from rich to poor , however this would not be the case as a bully is a bully and would start bullying someone for something else such as their nationality , colour or religion .Therefore They would carry on with their awful and unacceptable behaviour. 

However I agree with the fact that there should be some sort of formal wear like a set of uniform for certain ceremonies such as a sunday chapel, a memorial service , certain speeches or dinners and assembly. This is due to the fact that it is just more respectful to not only the person holding the event but to yourself and peers as well.

To conclude I would like to say that although it is more formal and respectful to wear a certain uniform at ceremonies or events; I think that students should be allowed to wear what they want on a day to day basis and I hope that the points above prove this . Thank you for listening.
