Today I will be explaining the reasons why gas weapons should be banned. I will be answering these three questions, What were the characteristics of gas weapons? , What made gas weapons terrifying? and, What were the symptoms of gas weapon exposure? I hope you understand my point of view.

What were the characteristics of gas weapons?

The characteristics of gas weapons were that you could not smell the gas till it was too late. Also, you could barely see the gas weapons/toxic gas. The toxic gas could be expected very far. Far enough for the Germans to rupture the French line along 6-kilometers. The toxic gas would also last a very long time (1 to 2 days). Toxic gas was usually a bomb or an artillery shell. There were also many variants of gas weapons like mustard gas, lachrymatory, phosgene, and many more.

What made gas weapons so terrifying?

What made gas weapons so terrifying was the fact that the soldiers could sometimes not tell if the enemy had launched a gas weapon till someone got the symptoms. Another reason why gas weapons were so terrifying is because their gas masks were not very good meaning even though you had your mask on you could still inhale the gas causing you to get the symptoms too. In addition, because you had the gas mask on you couldn't see well. In addition Gas, weapons were terrifying to France at that time because in France on 22 April 1915 Near Langemarck, in Belgium, the Germans used poison gas for the first time meaning they had never seen something like this before.

What were the symptoms of gas weapon exposure?

The symptoms of gas weapons were people went blind. It could also just damage the eyes a bit or for a while/temporarily but in large concentrations could also damage the respiratory. Another category would damage the human body by entering the lungs preventing oxygen from reaching the blood. Gas weapons could also cause sneezing, nausea, and vomiting. Some of the other symptoms were eyes burning and coughing. More physical effects were bronchitis, emphysema, fibrosis of the lungs, asthma, vertigo, palpitations, pulse rate up to 13, pain after food, and streaming.

To conclude my reasoning why gas weapons should be banned is because gas weapons are very dangerous and can harm you if you are not wearing a gas mask furthermore think about all the symptoms that gas weapons have. Gas weapons can literally kill you! Over and above that there are many other ways to end the war without killing too many people.
