Do you think your child should be reading TKAM? Do you believe TKAM is a good book that should be taught in school? TKAM talks about  many life lessons and has something monumental to say about society, race, compassion and justice.TKAM talks about the injustices black people or racial slurs  as the book refers to them, faced during the Jim Crow laws. I think TKAM should be taught in school because I think that TKAM gives many life lessons, and could educate some people on the history and build the vocabulary.

According to  the website ottawasizen.com it says  that To Kill a Mockingbird teaches the value of empathy and understanding differences. The novel offers excellent learning opportunities such as discussion, role-playing, and historical research, allowing students to develop into these issues and appreciate them and the work itself. This gives an understanding that TKAM teaches life lessons that could be useful for the future. On another website called federalist.com it says that The n-word is an uncomfortable word for anyone to read. Most people don’t relish thinking about its use and the historical denigration of blacks in America. But Lee’s book is not encouraging the use of that word. It’s simply describing its use.

Some people might think that It has an old-fashioned writing style and the vocabulary is very sophisticated but I couldn't disagree more because the vocabulary is supposed to educate the student about things that were happening back then and try to prevent that from continuing on in the future.  According to the website federalist.com it states that To Kill a Mockingbird is  essential in order to grasp important truths about the past and to avoid repeating its mistakes and tragedies. It also states that So many books these days are focused more on identity politics or social justice than they are on describing the human condition, the highest calling of art—which Lee excelled at.“To Kill a Mockingbird” has something monumental to say about society, race, compassion, and justice, as well as about the painful process of growing up

In conclusion, I feel strongly that TKAM should be taught in school because it could give many student life lessons about the past. This explains why i think that TKAM should be taught to students in schools.
